Guys I think it is a common misconception that a super volcano eruption would be this large all the time as it only means it had past eruptions that had a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 8

yellowstone caldera is about twice the size of manhattan, around 45km. now compare it to the most violent eruption in recorded history; mount tambora 1815 which left a caldera around 6km in diameter. from that you can use your imagination to how far the yellowstone eruption will extend its destruction if it happens in the future
