Yo, heave, oh
Yo, heave, oh
Once more, once again, still once more
Yo, heave, oh
Yo, heave, oh

Once more, once again, still once more
We pull a birch tree
We pull a curly

Go, yes, go
Go, yes, go

We pull a curly
We go along the bank
To the sun we sing our song

Go, yes, go
Go, yes, go

To the sun we sing our song
Hey, hey, we pull the rope strongly
To the sun we sing our song

Go, yes, go
Go, yes, go

Once more, once again, still once more
And you, Volga, mother river
Wide and deep

Go, yes, go
Go, yes, go

Volga, Volga, mother river

Yo, heave, oh
Yo, heave, oh

Once more, once again, still once more
Yo, heave, oh
Yo, heave, oh

The song of overcoming times of hardship, misery and pain. It captures the feeling perfectly.

I love this song, because it doesn't stop sounding ominous or powerful

Nothing like this song to cheer me up after a several years' long relationship collapsing

There's not a single song out there that helps me open up my voice like this. Love it.

What a find! Thank you so much for posting. My grandpa used to sing this song (and others) to me when I was a kid. He used to live in what was then the Kyiv Oblast. Such a rich history of these people - a tough life most of us could never understand.

Not only a beautiful language like this exists for me and others to learn, but beautiful songs such as these allow me to learn more as well!

I was one of pioneer representatives of Yougoslavia at meeting of socialistic country pioneers in Hungary, lake Balaton. There were also pioneers were from СОВЕТСКИЙ СОЮЗ. Pioneers were from Odessa representing СОВЕТСКИЙ СОЮЗ.That was 1984. We prepared for each country one song to greet on their language. This is song that we were singing to greet СОВЕТСКИЙ СОЮЗ friends. The most popular song that pioneers from Odessa sang was Подмосковные Вечера. All kids from Yougoslavia learned that song to sing. After 40 years I am still in contact with one of that pioneer from СОВЕТСКИЙ СОЮЗ. Today I wathced movie Холоп - Milos Bikovic and found familiar song sounds like Ei uhnem..I started to sing it and then found it on Youtube. Beautiful memories.

This song was the opening song of a Dutch nature documentary about Russian wildlife. Called 'The Realm of the Russian bear'.

I think it'd be hilarious to sing this song while launching and paddling my canoe here in Canada. Learning the lyrics is a tall order, since I don't speak any Russian -- but, thanks to this video, it's possible, at least.

Да. Песня хороша своей историчностью, реализмом состояния поющих её людей, традиционной манерой исполнения. Соло и поддержка хора .

Thank goodness I am able to read Cyrillic as an American.

Otherwise I'd be stuck with the Latin alphabet for years.

this is wonderful-thanks for the lyrics and the pronunciation of the words-how did you know I would sing this as if I was born there?

Спасибо, огромное спасибо, Яна!
эта красивая песня о этих людей такой храбрый поднятой лодки.
И эти картины "Нефть", которые также описывают красивую природу и суровость жизни. Плохо хорошо стрелков Волге!
