MANILA – The Filipino Nurses United (FNU) on Thursday bemoan staffing shortage as government hospitals increase bed capacity to respond to the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country.

I am a nurse, and they make you work whether you are sick or not due to the shortage in my hospital.

I am working in a private hospital in the Philippines. My salary is P 10- 13 thousand per cut off + P 5000 retention pay per month with a hazard pay of 75 pesos. We work 8 -16hrs a day. We can only have as much as P18 thousand if we have overtimes and holidays. Our hospital is so full of covid and pui patients. We have 2 floors for that. They don't even care if 1 staff or doctor in a unit is tested for covid. All they say is to disinfect the area. What about the staff? The management doesn't care for the well being of their staff and doctors. All they care is the profit they could get from the patients and what the bosses will say. We all know that our salary depends on the performance or the capability of the hospital but You know, I love being a nurse and I thought that this is a calling. But what should we do if there's no one that cares for the people who cares for others?
