History of Great Britain & the UK: Every Year

The Acts of Union, passed by the English and Scottish Parliaments in 1707, led to the creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain, forming one nation from the two. Following which nearly one hundred years later, the Acts of Union 1800 passed in the British and Irish Parliaments to merge into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, which after upheavel in Ireland finally formed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

A long, complex history has followed since the formation of a single British state, notably with its controversial expansion into Ireland and the issue of Scottish independence being key points of interest. Whether any further evolutions or devolutions of Britain will happen remains to be seen. Now with the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain is a nation in mourning.

With the death of Queen Elizabeth II already being a time of loss, alongside personal grief over the passing of my much loved dog Alfie, this is both a deeply personal time of grief but also shared sorrow across Britain and the Commonwealth. Let's not just mourn this time of death, but also celebrate lives lived.

It's crazy how we had a new Prime Minister and a new Monarch in the same week!

Awesome videos. Keep making more, such high quality maps with detail and effort palpable in each one. Lots of research has to be recquired on topics like these. I can imagine it takes time to research produce and release these videos!

Brilliant video but some of the county enclaves/exclaves stuck around a bit longer than they should've. Excellent work otherwise though!

Fact: Robert Walpole's term as prime minister was the longest, serving from April 13th 1721 to February 11th 1742 (almost 21 years in a row!)

Remember that due to the Georges being of the Hanover dynasty, they also were the leaders of Hanover in Germany

In the video about Germany, you presented the presidents portraits when showing the Weimar Republic while showing the chancellors when showing the FRG, ofc it was that way because those were the people exercising power. For Britain though, when do you think you can pinpoint the moment the Monarchy gradually lost all power to the PM?

Awesome work btw, love the maps, details and everything you do. Truly underrated channel!

Can someone tell me, why when the there was a personal union of England and Scotland, both kingdoms merged to become Great Britain. And then they merged with Ireland to form the United Kingdom as both Great Britain and Ireland had the same monarch. But why when King George II from Hanover ascended the throne, Kingdom of Hanover was not merged into the UK as well?
