Diagnosis and management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a condition of unknown etiology that affects primarily overweight, reproductive-aged women. Vlasta Vukovic Cvetković, MD, PhD, University Hospital Glostrup, Danish Headache Center, Copenhagen, Denmark, describes the diagnosis and management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, which can be complex and multiple medical subspecialties are often involved. It is well-documented that an early diagnosis leads to a better visual outcome. The currently recommended strategies are a combination of medication, lifestyle changes, and weight loss in the vast majority of patients.
