Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis - pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, investigation and treatment

Показать описание
"Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic progressive fibrotic interstitial lung disease of unknown cause that primarily occurs in older adults. Doctors suspect interstitial lung disease when an adult presents with unexplained exertional dyspnoea, chronic dry cough or inspiratory velcro-like crackles on examination. Fibrosis is typically in the lower lobes of the lung.

Clubbing , low oxygen saturation and dyspnoea is the hallmark of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. High resolution CT chest is cold standard for diagnosis. Here you see the pathological pattern of usual interstitial pneumonia: low base predominance, traction bronchiectasis, honeycombing and reticular changes without significance ground glass changes"

Thank you for this excellent video. Remember, if you have a patient with clubbing and crackles, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis should be high up your list of differentials, but it isn't the only differential. Consider sarcoidosis, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, collagen vascular diseases as well as, of course, asbestosis too.

This is what killed my mom. Four years is all it took. Never smoked, nothing. The only thing I can figure is maybe because she grew up in West Virginia and had polia and TB as a child that maybe that contributed somehow. She had only 1/4 left of function in one lung, got double pneumonia and died in 2 days. Seriously sucked. I was with her when she died, so at least she wasn't alone.

I have this right now. My mom died due to TB and my dad died due to Ulcer. 3 days ago the doctor told me this is my findings. She states that its not so serious and i told her i research this type of disease. She told me not to worry about it and gave me . A prescription consist of Tranexamic Acid, Amoxicillin, Azithromycin. I fear for my life, no one is beside me i have a lot of things to accomplish but this thing made me give up and let the time tell.

My husband died from IPF just over 5 yrs ago. The Specialist said it was either very aggressive or he’d had it a while and had learnt to live with it. From being admitted into the hospital 21st July with breathing difficulties, it took 10 days to diagnose him, and he died 8 August. This disease is worse than cancer, there is no cure.

Deterioration of the lungs CAN be stopped by using high quality Manuka honey through a nebuliser. I was diagnosed with IPF in 2007. Within 2 months of starting this treatment my coughing had reduced 98%, and within 6 months the disease was no longer progressing. I still suffer from this disease, but 15 years later I am still here, thanks to that magnificent honey.

I have IPF and RA as well as fibromyalgia which I thought was quackery but whatever. I am told I cannot take anything for severe pain which is constant. I’m told I have to live with it. But eventually it will drive me to seek euthanasia somehow. It is impossible to live like this.

Really nasty stuff. Killed my father 6 days ago. Didn't help that lungs were extremely scarred on top of pnemonia, COPD, Aspiration, Just so many factors working against.

Living on it since 7 age unnoticed event that leads to multiple injury of the lung and the bad thing is that this is the
Begining of the so called idiopathic reaction changing behaviour like stupor .dullness, poor mentality, aggressive
is facing hidden lung injuries patents should send them for immediate treatment as early

I wonder if the post-COVID fibrosis we are seeing in a lot of our ICU pts (has a similar CT appearance of honeycombing) will result in similar median survivals as mentioned at the end, 5 years.
