Neighbors in the Moorings community are upset about interview Austin Harrouff did with Dr. Phil

You guys do realize he was beaten and tased while eating that dudes face and he never took his mind off of it? He was in a psychotic episode.

Ok, so the dad just let him leave the restaurant after he had been acting erratically for months. And the sister stopped him from jumping into traffic right before they sat down to eat, and STILL let him LEAVE???What is wrong with those people??

For those saying he had crocodile or fake tears please understand that this interview was after he started receiving some psychiatric help from the hospital and jail. The medications that they give you early on nearly eliminate your ability to express or feel emotion. And when some comes out it is very different than normal emotion.

I don't understand why Dr Phil thinks he can get to the bottom of everyone's problem.

It's disappointing how some people are still not educated about mental illness.

What would the motive be if he planned it? Look at his internet searches he was fighting a war raging within him internally between him and his psyche. Look at his internet searches this kid wasn't trying to kill somebody for the "fun of it", to go to prison, or to be infamous. The kid had a legitimate mental breakdown. He's not criminally responsible he didn't try to cover up his crime he literally actually was insane.

It's high time we as society start caring for the mentally ill among us instead of labeling them & pushing them away. This stigma around mental illness causes ppl to hide the symptoms as long as possible until something like this happens.

Man, this is a tough one . He obviously wasn't in the right mind but then again you can't let this go unpunished .

He was going through severe mental illness, he’s 100% culpable but mental health is a serious illness.. so he’s a sick boy
He had red flags for weeks yet no one thought to get some intervention for his safety as well as everyone else. People around him let him down... RIP to the innocent victims 🙏🏽

Wasn't planned however he was googling how to stop intrusive thoughts.. he had some idea of what was going through his head before he completely lost it. Then at which point the family should've stepped in and made the call to take him to the hospital after weeks of crazy. Smh. I feel so bad for the victims and they're families. These people failed their son and them so badly.

No he did not do this while in the right mind. Clearly he has remorse and is confused and in shock. Clearly! He deserves Grace and mercy. This is absolutely devastating. The whole thing. I can't wrap my mind around it. Wow

I feel bad for the victims but I also deeply feel bad for Austin. He clearly was mentally ill at the time and not criminally responsible. There was no motive-- not that you need one to prosecute for crime so not having one supports his mental illness defense; he was battling paranoia and hearing voices weeks and I made no effort to cover up the crime he genuinely had severe psychosis that night. He thought he was saving his own life and he was scared probably just as scared as they were.

Mid-incident, Austin literally screamed "SHOOT ME! I'M EATING HUMANS!"

I absolutely understand the family and friends feelings but I honestly believe Austin was and is insane.

There’s a difference between evil and mentally unwell.
