What's even more sad is the people walking around have no idea they'll eventually die a slow, agonizing death from radiation poisoning. The most awful thought is that the ones who died in the blast zone were the "lucky ones".

The crazy part is no one was aware of the radiation at the time

What’s crazy is one of the littlest nukes caused this, imagine what bigger ones could do

The 'A" bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945, my 19th birthday. It saved my life and that of 85, 000 other service men who were scheduled to participate in the invasion. Six weeks later, I went in there. The odor of rotting bodies yet to be recovered from the ruins and the utter destruction of almost everything at ground zero were hard to describe. I left there but Hiroshima never left me; I came down with cancer many years later as the result of inhaling the radioactive particles that filled the air.

My Grandfather, god rest his soul, lost both his parents to the War, his father was a Chinese soldier who fought for the Philippine army, his Mother died during the bombing of Manila. Thousands more died when they marched, Filipino and American POWs in Bataan. And millions more in Korea, Manchuria, Nanqing, Taipei, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, and many more.

To me, Fat Man and Little Boy carried the souls of the millions that died in the hands of the Imperial Army.

I remember them telling us in school how those in the immediate blast zone were vaporized and that its said you could see peoples ashes burned into the structures that were left standing.

And the fact Nagasaki wasn’t even meant to be hit. They were going for another city but it was too cloudy so they went to Nagasaki instead.

Japanese army was practically finished before the first bomb was dropped. They had no food, most of the soldiers was at the edge of starvation, they had mans, they started send children to the battle . Month or 2 and the war would be over anyway . But, the truth is, it was big and I mean BIG opportunity for US to actually test this deadly weapon so they did it . Nobody knew about horrible catastrophic consequences of this blast, even those who invented it, but like I say, it was great opportunities so learning came later . You see in Every War and I mean EVERY war, those who are on top will always tell you that whatever they do is in Good Reason . There is never Bad reason, there is always the good one .
But the thing is, they don’t go fight, they sit behind the desks, they talk, they sign the papers and they talk again . There are common people who usually die, people like you and me, kids . So to me saying that dropping those bombs was absolutely necessary is like really ? Says Who? we all should learn something here, we should learn not to follow devastating decisions from our hidden top guys . And this is for both sides, for all who each day find the reasons to fight !

My dad was in the Navy and docked in Hiroshima 2 weeks after the blast. He saw the destruction and the walking wounded. He took a few pictures. After this he became strongly anti-war. My dad spoke out against the Vietnam War.
