Another great choice, JJ ! One of the things I love about Bread is just how sweet their sound is. This one demonstrates it. The lyrics are always on point with them too.

Great reaction and request! I remember this song from high school- I remember that it was considered kind and romantic, how he was accepting, and not angry about the situation.
Although I understand your surprise and think that most people wouldn’t react the way he does in the story the lyrics tell! A beautiful song, I really like his voice, and their songs. 💜

1:23 "Huh?!" I've never seen our friend JJ surprised so much by a single line in a song. Hilarious, but he also nailed the essential paradox of the song -- David Gates is saying some shocking things to his girl here, and in the most cheerful, upbeat way possible. A very delightful reaction!

One of the great groups of the seventies. Not just David Gates' gorgeous ballads, but their rockers, too. You should love "Diary" and "If" and "Everything I Own" as well. Fabulous lyrics in addition to the performances. But also check out uptempo numbers like "Let Your Love Go" and "Mother Freedom." These guys were brilliant songwriters and musicians. Really enjoyed your thoughtful comments.

I remember this song - taps perfectly into teenage angst, including the line that shocked you, lol. So Seventies.

I’m sure it really did matter to him, more like he’s trying to convince himself. Different times, great chill vibe and good observations w/ the reaction ✌️

Great reaction JJ! Add it to your playlist...every time you hear this song it gets better and better! This song was actually used as the intro song for the EXCELLENT Showtime/Paramount+ Biz Markie documentary because it related to a key part of the Biz story how he married his wife.

David Gates is singing about letting go and accepting that life is ever-changing. He acknowledges that people come and go in our lives, and while it may be painful, we have to learn to let them go and move on.

Hi, Just: Whip appeal?? I guess I don't understand the way young people think in 2023 but when this song was out, as far as I can remember, nobody had a problem with the lyrics. This was the studio 45 version and I have the original 45 as well as Make It With You. The reason I said 'studio 45' is because, it was on their first album and not nearly as good and they knew it. So, they redid it and it only came out on 45 (not counting greatest hits, etc.). Nice upload; thank you.

It would matter to me if you found someone better than me.

Just my interpretation, but I think it really does matter to him; he’s just trying to seem strong or uncaring because he thinks that’s the way to get her back.
