Gauntlet IV Video Review

Gaming Pastime reviews Gauntlet IV for Sega Genesis. This is one of the best games in the Gauntlet series.

Developed by M2 and published by Tengen, Gauntlet IV was released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Gauntlet IV is a remake or port of the original arcade game with additional gameplay modes. The Quest Mode is hightlight here, includes RPG elements, and is basically a precursor to what we would see in future console Gauntlet games. If you never liked Gauntlet then there's nothing here that will change your mind. If you love Gauntlet then this is probably the best way to play the original game. It also has some of the best music from the 16-bit era of consoles.

Guantlet was the first arcade machine I ever saw that could play 4 players at a time in the 80's.. Surprisingly ive never owned this back in the day on my Genesis but recently bought it off ebay. It has become one of my favorite Genesis games 👍

Technically, the true precursor to having a quest mode in the Gauntlet games was the Tengen Gauntlet for the 8-bit NES. Gauntlet III for the home computers would expand on the quest concept and introduced the isometric view that we later saw in Gauntlet Legends and Legacy.

I remember when this released on the SEGA Megadrive. Both my friend down the road and myself got a copy of it for Christmas from our respective parents (if I remember right, it retailed at £45 which was about normal for megadrive games back then, but we both played the hell out of it.)

Definitely one of the best games on the Megadrive/Genesis, and I completely agree that the music is phenomenal

not sure if i like the music or not, if i remember correctly the other games didnt have music except during the stage completion or bonus stage, which gave it a fitting creepy vibe. But it sounds like they just added generic genesis music over the game. I hope it sounds good, also the colors look a bit flat compared to other versions.
