My bananas come from the Walmart down the road. They must have a tree like yours out back. 🤣🤣

I love seeing people willing to attempt cultivating crops that are beyond what folks say is regionally possible. I’ve seen a productive lemon tree and kiwi vines in Vancouver, for example. Great work and enjoy your bananas! 🍌⭐️

Thats awesome Dean!! Working on a plan to build our own passive solar greenhoues in the southwest corner of sask. You're an inspiration sir!!

What ever happened to the podcast? Was really enjoying them.

Take care and keep up the good work!!

So, after the build up about "it was mislabeled", I laughed out loud when I saw a clearly recognizable Blue Java. And then you showed the fruit, and... oh. Close, but no cigar. In Hawaii, we usually call these ones cooking bananas, though they're perfectly good raw. They're similar to ice cream bananas in several respects, not just the appearance of the plant. Cold tolerance, for example... they're one of the other cultivars that do well in the higher elevations. They do have an odd marshmallow fluff texture, but they also melt into a delicious goo when sauteed. I don't know where they originate - they're not a Polynesian cultivar, and I suspect most of them were planted under the same mistaken identity as yours - but they're still a reasonably good eating banana that happens to also be a top tier cooking banana and an exceptionally cold tolerant variety.
