Just picked up Vigil, and it is an absolute banger. Pheonotopia is one of my top for the year-- I hope more people play it because it's incredible. Thanks for pointing me to Monster Sanctuary-- it's such a great title, and the pixel art for all the animals is gorgeous. Still have to get on Alwa and Shantae!

Thanks a lot for this Metroidvania list 😎. If I may make a suggestion : Please, consider dramatically reducing the size of the text boxes (containing the title, company, date, ...) and placing them closer to the bottom edge of the screen, as they invade the screen too noticeably.

Holy shit I remember playing the og Phenotopia game on newgrounds YEARS ago, I had no idea there was a new one, and its a fully fledged game on steam. I cant wait to play it now 🤩

Vigil is the best of the year (Ori is disqualified, because the worm made me want ot break things, :p )

Also shout-outs to The Guise, Endless Memories and Biomass.

While the year was a bit light on releases, I think it's safe to say this was an amazing year for Metroidvania demos. Steamdolls, Gestalt, Yeomna, 8 doors, Guardian of Lore, Itorah, Tartapolis, Heidelberg 1693-- I don't think I ever saw this many titles available to try as during this year's Steam festivals. So many great announcements, too. The genre is in a really good spot, and there's loads to look forward to.
