I think 40 million is not "just" amount with only 8 teams in 1992.
If you're comparing, you should also consider the rate of inflation along with the no. of teams.

Imo the champions league is always bigger than the euros, the uefa euro winner always crashes and burns in the world cup 2 years after (with one exception)

2000- france won it, went out in the 2002 group stage
2004-greece won it, didnt qualify
2008- spain won it but won the world cup (the only exception)
2012- spain won and had the worst world cup campaign in 2014 for a talented squad and considering alot of their starting 11 were champions league finalists

2016- portugal won it and then went out in the round of 16 having won only 1 game in 90 mins the whole competition, (similarly they repeated this feat in the euro they won)

2020 (21)- italy won it and then failed to qualify for the world cup


it's become a very watered down competition and this years euros was the worst euros ive evet watched

Unpopular opinion (i think): i love the big amount of teams, in my opinion we need more. It feels more like the European competition when all of europe gets to compete. And it also shines players and young talents of countries you normally wouldn't see. It gives them a big stage.
