I like how the 2 top comments are “I understood absolutely nothing” and “Turns out I understand Japanese”.

This has been the greatest ego boost of my entire life.
I am eternally grateful.

I just realized that I'm not translating as much in my head, I can just understand what is being said. I'm far from being able to speak Japanese and even farther from organizing the sentence structure correctly, but I understand the words that she is saying. Out of order, yes, but I can infer what is being said. For those who are having a hard time writing and listening to Japanese "speak out of order" compared to English, it starts to make sense after a while. It's taken me 2 years of non serious studying to finally get past understanding the sentence order. I don't worry about translating the sentence in my head; I just listen for what I understand now.

Love this format.
1. Without subtitles to test oneself
2. With subtitles to find and learn missing knowledge,
3. Without subtitles again, to test again. ⭐

Years of watching anime finally paid off lol

Rare to have N4/N5 tutorial on YouTube, so it’s really difficult for the beginners to test themselves. By finishing this video, it will not only test their progress but also give confidence to the beginners. Well done!🎉

The sigh of relief when I understood everything the first time was MONUMENTAL

The Four Seasons Hotel and Afternoon Tea really got me there ahah my ear is not trained nor expecting loan words like that I guess. Excelent exercise to remind us that it's the little details like this that count! :)

This is like that feeling of not knowing what it means but somehow understanding it

I really like the English subtitles. Sometimes when I'm using a program to learn Japanese, the English translations are "what they mean to say" vs what they literally just said in Japanese. I get they want the English to be more like what a native English speaker would say, but It can be confusing and it slows down the learning process for me. So I appreciate your subtitles actually say what you're saying in Japanese. I hope that made sense.

I realized quite fast that: If i don't pay that close attention i don't understand
But if i focus i do mostly understand what's being said, which defently opened my eyes a bit since i learned words from just listening to other words i already knew.
Thanks :D

Can't wait for the N4 version! I learned practical Japanese first. So, these are a great way to gauge my JLPT level.

Holy crap, I've actually been learning something and this has been a big boost to my motivation to keep going! I can learn Japanese, I can do it! Having something like this to help me realize the progress I've made is so helpful!

It's amazing how much slowing down the speaking speed eases understanding. Of course, the vocabulary was also basic with lots of loan words, but i could understand everything the first time.

Increasing the vocabulary level at slow speed would be very helpful.

The Four Seasons Hotel and Afternoon Tea really made me trip 😅 I'm glad I could understand like 60% of what was said on the first time. Thank you for making content like this!

I got more of this than I expected. 🙂 It might be a nice extra challenge to have all three sections repeated together at native, conversational speed at the end!

Thank you so much for uploading this content! I've been learning for 9 months now and I was able to understand about 85% of that! Thank you so much for a much needed confidence boost!
