This explanation is clear and obvious, it is astounding to me that calvinists are able to interpret these passages any other way.

According to Calvinist logic it's impossible for an Elect person not to hear the Gospel and get saved so... this whole diatribe by Piper is absolutely pointless...

My great-grandparents were missionaries to Tibet from the 1920s to the 1940s, and grew as much of their own food as they could, including some chickens. When my grandfather and his older brother were young children, they got the bright idea to set their dad's shaving mirror up in the barnyard to see how the rooster, which was both vicious and vain, would react. They weren't disappointed, as the rooster saw his reflection as another rooster and attacked it fiercely, trying to drive it away. Much to his frustration, the "other rooster" blocked every attack exactly with its own beak and claws. The rooster circled around to try to get a better attack angle, only for the "other rooster" to suddenly disappear. The rooster looked around confused for a few seconds, then decided he had chased off the "intruder" and started strutting and crowing in triumph, until my grandfather's brother turned the mirror around...

The reason I bring up this entertaining story is because John Piper reminds me a lot of that rooster. His attack on what he called "faulty logic" was painfully ironic, as the question he was responding to was actually perfectly logically consistent with the Calvinist version of Election. Piper then went on to spew several minutes of actual faulty logic trying to demonstrate the supposed faultiness of the sound logic in the original question. Just like the rooster pecking and clawing at a mirror reflecting its own image, Piper was attacking his own reflection, oblivious to the fact that he was doing so!

Calvinists are overly complicating the simple gospel of salvation by grace.

Without the decree the “means” can’t happen. Now the kicker question “how do I know whether I am decreed to be the “means” to help someone or anyone?”(Evangelize ect)
The answer has to be: “I have a great desire to be the means”because Calvinism necessitates that I will act on my greatest “desire” and “wants” and God determines (decrees) my desires and wants. So, no need for concern about discipline, or obedience or disobedience because God could make us all “obedient” if He so desired and since many of us fail to be obedient (after conversion) then we must conclude obedience or disobedience is all a matter of decree and the easy way to know what God decreed is to see what you actually do whether good or bad. (Looking at the past)
The absurdity of determinism has no limits demonstrated by ridiculous explanations like this one from Piper. But since he is a “respected teacher” we are all supposed to say “oh now I get it!”

The very definition of circular reasoning: Calvinism

John Piper did not answer the question that was asked. The question essentially, was this, "Why the urgency to evangelize to the world if there are those who are not elected, and cannot be saved?" Mr. Piper convoluted the question in his paraphrasing, to sound very intellectual and logical. He ended up answering a different question than was asked, stating that God correlates evangelism to ensure that His decree will correlate (ensure) that the person will be saved (determinism). This answer completely obviates the initial question about the necessity of evangelizing the non-elect. I wonder if these men know they are deceptive and carrying out the bidding of satan?

You can't make this stuff up! Leighton you always do a fantastic job cutting thru the illogic of Calvinism. I use your material every week talking with family members who are Calvinists.

After listening to this nonsense by John Piper, is it any wonder that so many are deconstructing their faith? Thank you, Dr. Flowers for pointing out the illogical teachings of Calvinism.

So if we "choose" not to evangelize to an individual then we must not have been decreed to.

Might be alot of "blood on our hands" if we take this approach.. 🤔

Calvinists impose an Eph 2:8 salvation event into 2 Tim 2:10. But Paul isn't talking about the Ephesians 2:8 salvation event here. He is talking about the future salvation event when Jesus comes. The elect in question are those already in Christ awaiting Jesus who will save them from the coming wrath. Heb 9:28.

Piper attacks the "faulty logic" he himself uses to defend his Deterministic position.

How ironic, trying to rid the world of heresies, Calvinism became it's biggest one ever --by besmirching the glory of God.

Calvinists have an uncanny flair to misread, misinterpret and even misquote passages in Scripture with one thing in mind – to defend Calvin’s doctrines of grace.
