I just happened to stumble upon 'Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop' in my local bookstore (in Germany) and intanstly added it to my booklist for this year.

My top anticipated read is The Only Light Left Burning, sequel to All That's Left in the World! I was never into post-pandemic/apocalyptic books, but this one had such stellar pacing, character work, humour, and some absolutely chilling lines and ideas that I still can't get over.

I am very excited for A Tempest of Tea!! The description very much intrigues me and I loved the author's previous book so I am definetely looking forward to it :D

I am happy, that over the past lot of years, we have seen more hype and love for novellas in general. I found my love for them when I read The Deep by Rivers Solomon, which you may like judging by how you talked about The Woods All Black. It does have some great conversations. The Deep is a tale about black mermaids and a mermaid is selected to carry the memories and the history of the people. But she is suffering. I think yearly there is this tradition where she gives it to the mermaids so they get to remember but this time, she doesn't think she can keep living with their memories, so gives them what she sees as her burden and she swims away. And while away she builds this connection with another person, and through them she starts to understand the necessity of remembering painful histories.

A Magical Girl Retires sounds incredible and it’s now happily on my radar! something about the tone of this one, from the description at least, reminds me a little bit of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, if you’ve ever seen it (and def recommend if you haven’t!)
it feels like my anticipated releases list gets smaller every year since I find myself doing less and less research, or maybe just being less involved in bookish online spaces, so this video is very helpful and appreciated 💗

I'm also trying to read more Adult books because I feel the same way about YA books unfortunately. However, A Tempest of Tea is probably one of the YA books I'm interested in because I loved the We Hunt the Flame duology. I hope Hafsah Faizal keeps it up with this book! I've been meaning to read Ace of Spades so maybe when Where Sleeping Girls Lie is released I'll read them back to back! A Magical Girl Retires sounds cute and I do love that cover!
