Top tip! My feet are even too wide for the Luna template so if you reach out, they’ll do a custom cut for you! It’s a $30 additional charge, but so worth it.

Xero sandals have been my go to sandals, but I just bought my first pair of Lunas and can’t wait to hit the trails in them.

I've always gone barefoot when I can. I love the new barefoot footwear you can buy now.

I lived in Israel for a while and used, almost exclusively, Source sandals. We call them "shoresh" (which means "roots"), but the word sounds like Source so thus they are marketed. It is the original hiking sandal, copied by Teva (itself a Hebrew word meaning "nature"); this strappy sandal design was first mass produced from plastic on kibbutzim for young atheist communist farmers in short shorts.

I live in Florida now and have used Xero, Earth Runners and a few other brands but nothing beats the longevity of Sources. They take a minute to break in, which Israelis dont have issue with since we wear them everywhere anyways, but once the footbed molds to your arch and you build up callouses from the straps, they are excellent heavy duty sandals. I treat the straps with peppermint oil and a beeswax ointment to combat water retention and its odor, as well as treating the footbed with patchouli oil to keep that part fresh.

Love my Lunas. (Oso Flaco Winged, and Origen Flaco). <3
Never got on with Xeros.
But you gotta give the Bedrock *Classic* a try. They fit HEARTILY into this group.
Their Cairn Geo is pretty rad too - less stack height than the regular Cairns, but the Classics are just plain awesome and full minimal but rugged.

I've ridden on Shammas, and they're good, just weird looking. They were my first barefoot sandals. But Xero, OMG, so good! Xero Z Trails all day!

I've bought second hand and then new dance jazz or celtic "flats" ( as in actual dance brands like bloch). Super thin, so sadly wear out the soles, but omg I LOVE them for non aggressive trails

I have bedrocks, lunas, and xeros and tevas. Wear the rocks and the xero z trek the most.

The xero aqua cloud would also be great in this list, I have them and love them for all summer activities.
Just bought the pathways and have yet to try them, but I want them for a more casual use 😇 I already have the seaside model from feelgrounds and love them. As far as xero z trek...I'm not a fan 🤷 they are a bit long for my foot, the smaller size seems a bit small, so I guess I'm in between sizes, but since I have long toes I can make their aqua cloud model work :)

Thanks for the overview. I love hiking barefoot but I'm looking for something lightweight to get over gravel sections. I find the sole shape of Xero a bit odd for my foot shape and I'm looking for something with more profile so I might give the Luna a try.

How about shammas? I’m looking into the trail master maximus, which has a big toe loop. The advantage is more stability and no sliding compared to toe thong sandals and no thong sandals. Hiking in rain is the test… going uphill and downhill.
