I have both Bedrocks and Earth Runners and they’re both the best for different reasons. I wear my Earth Runners more though, the cavas footbed is really grippy.

I’ve been waiting for a video like this my whole life. I LOVE SANDALS 🩴.

I have the Teva Hurricanes and the footbed takes FOREVER to dry, and they hold so much water too. Which sucks because even if you keep them dry but they get dirty, if you wash them you have to wait a while to wear them. They also hold onto smell.

I swear I've had the same sandal journey as you. Have tried a ton. Still have a soft spot for Chacos but I haven't had a pair in my closet for 3 or more years now.
I've got 3 pairs of Bedrocks (my Chaco replacement love - you should try their "Classic" - bet you'd love it) - the Cairn, Cairn Geo, and Classic....
and I've got 2 pair of Lunas (my newest foot love) - the Oso Flaco Winged and the Origen Flaco (which is AWESOME thin, rugged tire-tread out sole and leather upper!).
I'd say you should try Bedrocks a size down - your toes looked a bit far back and I will say Bedrocks took me the longest to dial in, but once I did, I've never touched the straps again (in 2 or 3 years) except the top on/off cinch strap. Just awesome. But the Lunas are stellar as well. Can't pick a fav between the two. Both companies are doing it right. Just awesome.

I've tried the Teva Universal, Bedrock Cairn, and Xero Z-Trek, and my favorites are the Z-Trek. They're the lightest, pack the smallest, and are the most comfortable. I will say the Bedrocks are of a nicer build quality, but my foot would constantly slide off the slides since there isn't any material to keep your foot centered in the front. The Tevas are okay, but the material isn't as soft and is too abrasive to the tops of my big toes.

Nice. This is type of sandals that I really like when I was a kid around almost 20 years ago. And I lost interest with it for years. And this year, I just bought one, not branded one but I like it. No, I LOVED IT!

Surfboard wax the insole might help out with river crossings and rain

I have Luna Origen Lites and really enjoy them, but they are not perfect. I think a pair of Oso Flaco Winged will fix it though. I think I just don't love needing to use the tech strap. I mean I don't need it but it really helps. Anyway, my Lunas are nice for my high-volume feet (many aren't).

The problem with some of these sustainability initiatives is that they may not really save you any money.

I need a new sole and have a sticky strap on a Chaco. I can use the re-Chaco program, but resoling costs $50. Fixing a stuck strap is $20. Then you add the cost of shipping, and Chacos aren't exactly light. We may be talking $85 spent to recondition an old sandal that you can often get for $80 with a first-timer deal or sale. And remember that you're going to continue pouring money in as you keep sending your sandals in and eventually re-Chaco everything. And I've only had mine for 3 years because I DO hike in them.

In a decade, I could end up spending about $300 to maintain an old sandal. It might not be worth it.

Just something to consider.

You should try sizing down your bedrocks

If you have a high arch, the Earthrunners are hell on earth (which I hear isn't great for grounding) because that strap over the top of your foot (that goes between your toes) is not adjustable and instead of breaking in the shoe, it feels like they are breaking in your foot...which I soon realized wasn't going to happen. Trying the Bedrocks next - they look promising!

Do sandals with big toe loops hold big toe straight for people with bunions?

The old Teva Terradactyls were amazing hikers. Circa 1994ish. New Cush flips are okay but not as good as others Great review, always love your content. Easy feet to look at too, thanks for that lol. 😬. Tip your pedicure expert. 😂. But I have to ask, do you have a favorite?

I’ve never been able to do Chacos cause the toe loop.. I’m paranoid I’ll de-glove my big toe. And, can’t wear socks.

Are the Chacos that don’t have the toe loop good? Some of the Amazon reviews said they are way hard to dial in a good fit. Teva that’s a non-issue so.. here I am.
