Moving to Alberta? Moving to Calgary? Be Careful! In this live stream, we discuss the really interesting cycles of migration that occur and typically peak right before a recession in Alberta. We go through the articles of the most recent examples 2013/2014/2015 and 2007/2008/2009.

You won't hear this on mainstream news outlets like City News, CTV News, CBC News, and Global News. You won't hear real estate agents or mortgage brokers making these comparisons either.

There's work here. But thats what it is....work. physical work, using both hands and brain. Degrees not required, trades certificates & apprentices preferred.

Reminds me of 2000/2001 when someone plastered the "Welcome to Calgary" sign on Highway 1 with a giant
"F@#% OFF WE'RE FULL" Sticker.

Think there is a chance that people think that the rest of Canada moving there may have to do with a sense of uncertainty as to the direction the rest of Canada faces, and the staunch opposition by Danielle to the feds, also mentioning that federal policies don't stick in Alberta? Just a thought...

Victim right here. Kept my Vancouver-based job and moved from Surrey, BC to Calgary, AB back in September 2022. Kind of already felt something was off at that point when the rental pricing was close to what I was paying in Surrey, BC but the housing prices were still ok so we went for it. Fast forward 1 year and we hated it there. Back in BC now and just turtling it out.

Some are moving to AB because of politics or ideological positions.

Tired of the extreme wokeness of some provinces.

With the advent of remote work, Alberta is even more attractive. I moved to Alberta in Feb, but remain employed by the same organization in Ontario. Works well.

Canadians scouring the country for a place to live is like a ship that has sunk and the rats are desperately seeking wreckage to stay afloat.

I was born & raised in Calgary & moved to Coquitlam BC 7 yesrs ago... Never going back.
If you want to go where there's more affordable housing go to the US, where food, fuel, cell phones, everything is cheaper.

I plan to move to a small town in AB. Housing is cheaper in the small towns but that kind of life is not for everyone. Most people need employment and have families which usually leads to them living in the city. I have a couple of small pensions and do just about any type of light work, customer support, retail, etc. I also have experience in work-from-home customer support and have checked out the different companies that offer that.

All of Canada is FAQED, it doesn't matter where you go. If there's cheap housing that means there's no work.

Here on Island every new home $1M plus, Edmonton $500K. Mortgage difference forces a survival mentality 🧐

It seemed to be quite common to move to Alberta from BC even back in the 90s after graduating from high school - and maybe vice versa. The difference then was most people could afford to take that risk, also likely based on emotion. Not anymore!

I moved from Ontario to Alberta 8 weeks ago. I got a great job in Calgary in healthcare and the price of real estate compared to Toronto is unbelievably liveable. Love my townhouse in Calgary. I walk to work now, after commuting in Toronto for years. This is the best move I've ever made and with the money I saved in real estate I might actually have a decent retirement.

I have been unemployed in Alberta for almost four years.. I am a red seal journeyman plumber and journeyman class b gasfitter. My job made me permanently disabled, and WCB denied every injury claim I ever made. I had to move to BC to get a diagnosis, because doctors is Alberta said I was too young to have back problems. I am now withholding my labour from Alberta until I see WCB end their “culture of denial”. Workers have no rights in Alberta.

I’m not desperate for work anymore.

I am now a 39 year old university student. Stay in school kids, skilled trades are not long-term jobs anymore..

Once I have my bachelors degree, I plan to move to a better country. I heard that Norway and Finland are the best countries for employment laws.

Those who have soiled their eastern nest, oftentimes move west for a total reset, or hope that western grass is greener. This not new. Vancouver has always been an attraction for those seeking better climate, but also because they have not found happiness, or success in the cold east of the nation. Go west young man. The national migration west includes the adventurous, the entrepeneurial and the desperate! Once they get to the west coast, they stay because the only thing "west" of Van is the cold Pacific ocean.

I moved to Calgary in 2006 and I don’t regret
If you want to move just do it
If you spend less than you make and have budget .
No problem if economy is up or down good or bad 😉

Selling the house in Ontario and BC should give them enough cushion

Home prices are up but the prices aren't like they are in Van or TO. Lifestyle is preferable here than anywhere in TO for sure. Van people are cold, never seem happy. Mentality is still about prosperity not handouts. You only look at a few economic factors, not the factors that actually matter to people. You have no idea what the real reason why people from both Ontario and BC are moving here. Care to guess?

Wow anyone thinking about making the BC Alberta move should watch this it could save a lot of financial heartache for them I’ve seen this so many times as Kelowna house painters go to Calgary and a year later return to nothing and start over again
