Good morning everyone and welcome to today's UK weather forecast on Friday 20th May 2022
Current Situation: Low pressure is moving into the country from the north Atlantic while a little area of low pressure clips the far south east corner...
Today:
Friday begins with a band of heavy rain moving towards western Scotland and Northern Ireland while southern England has light rain. Elsewhere it's dry with a mix of sunny spells and cloud.
Through this morning the rain turns heavy in the south east corner but clears away by late morning. Heavy showers will then push eastwards across the country with a risk of hail and thunder in the north and west where the showers could even merge into longer spells of rain. The far south and south east will probably keep it dry through the afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler at 13C to 18C.
Tonight:
Most of the showers will die out although some could keep going across Scotland. A mainly dry night with clear spells and variable cloud. Near normal temperatures. Cooler than recent nights with temperatures falling into single digits in many places.
Tomorrow:
Much of England and Wales will stay dry with just a few light showers in the west. Scotland and Northern Ireland may have heavier showers at times. Temperatures 14C to 20C. Warmer again in the south and east.
Outlook:.
Sunday: Showers becoming heavy and widespread in the northern half of the country but the south probably remains dry and warm.
Monday: Showers and longer spells of rain spreading southeastwards. Becoming cooler.
Tuesday: Sunshine and showers.
