Just get old cushion blocks from a pile driving company. They discard them. They’re free and hold up way better than soft pine 2x4 as they are many layers of compressed plywood.

That's called a crib, or cribbage. Also used to hold up houses when raising a cottage, but made of 10x10s.

I wouldnt recomend this unless you ran bolts through the entire stack thickness and use glue.
