First thing you want to do is cover your yeast in the jar, so it doesn`t get infected. Buy an erlenmeyer flask and when you culture up just put tinfoil or buy the foam stoppers to fit the size you buy . First thing about brewing sanitize everything, keep everything sterile as possible.. StarSan  & PBW  are good . Recirculate the wort through the grain bed until it`s very clear  before boiling. Pump or no pump, just pour it over the top . When it comes to a boil  skim the first break material off the surface of the wort. Use pure liguid yeast strains from White Labs or Wyeast . They have numerous different styles to choose from .  You can repitch into a new batch or save some from the fermentor & wash it, very easy process. All little steps that make a better beer. Sounds like you have a good handle on the process. STC-1000 is a handy unit, I have one.No worries on the state of the kitchen, my brew day lasts 8 hrs from mash in to clean up and involves a whole lot of equipment & setup that turns my kitchen into a lab/brewery. . Interested to see how it turns out . Cheers !

Yo! Good effort on the brew - I'm also a young UK homebrewer - You can get all the pots you need on the website 'angelhomebrew'. I've just purchased three 100 litre pots to mimic a blichmann setup which are about £78 each but there are 50 litre pots for about £54 I believe which you could use for the mash! Keep up the work bro.
