I deployed on the Callaghan (DDG-994) for a world cruise on this ship in 1992. Having originally been built for Iran, they were designed for Persian Gulf operations. The air conditioning was amazing!

We were fortunate that these were never delivered to Iran before the revolution. I will never understand why the US Navy didn't continue to build more of this design. I knew several guys who served on them and the crew loved both the better AC and fresh water plant capacities.
