I am kinda surprize to see that you got over 3 hours in 8K 24 fps compressed format. cause everytime I tried my R5 mark ii it overheats around an 1 hour mark which is still very useable. If you don't mind what brand of CFexpress card do you use for this test cause I heard that some brand of CFexpress card cause the overheat sooner than others. And I also tested 4k 60 multiple times and found that 4k 60p on SRAW is far superior than that regular 4k60 mode. I believe the 4K SRAW is oversampled RAW format rather than line skipped or pixel binning.

I unfortunately had my R52 overheat on a shoot in 4Kfine 25p after 29mins.

It was 100 degree heat though in direct sunlight and was very hot. My R51 didn’t overheat also in 4kfine. I also had an R7 which overheated after 30 mins.

The R7 I have used since it came out with no issue, hopefully this is a one time occurrence for the 5D2 as last weekend I had the R7 going for almost 2 hours in 4K fine!

Thanks for this.. I occasionally need to film a long form event.. And the thought of my high end camera just shutting down due to overheating had me wondering whether I needed the Rc5 . But I far prefer the form factor of the R5ii. Great to hear you don't think this is a massive issue. Sounds like a perfect all in one cam!

I wonder how it'll do outside. If I'm shooting a music festival here in an Australia summer, will I be able to film 4k 60p for sustained times in direct 40°C (104°F) sunlight? Hmm...

Compare RAW 4k60 in the r5ii against 4k H265 r5ii and you will see how much sharper and better the footage is in RAW. I will compare the 4K from R5C against 4K from the R5ii, but I don't think the R5C 4k will really beat the r5ii 4k.
For me the overheating in 8K-RAW 60fps is what I don't really like in the R5II, everything else is almost perfect 👌

Isn’t the R5 mark 1 limited to thirty minute clips? How can u compare it to the R52 in overheating?
