In this video, Devin - a TEquipment.NET Certified Thermographer - explains everything you need to know about emissivity in thermal imaging. Emissivity is important to understand because if it is not adjusted properly, it can cause serious errors in your measurements.

Thank you for explaining that. First day with my FLIR TG165-X. I aimed it at the very cold A/C line under the hood of my car and the reading was way off. I wanted to return the unit. Now I know why. I'll try your calibration method with the electrical tape.

Very good, this was an excellent explanation of emissivity with a good demonstration to reinforce the science

Nicely explained, what if we are not interested in exact measurement, like we are looking at Solar Panels for defects, roughly we want to know if it has any bad cell. will it help if we keep Emissivity to 1.0 which is perfect black body.

I need to be honest. I am torn. I can’t decide if I love this guy or cannot stand this guy! I think it’s a little bit of both. And I think I’m leaning towards. I love this guy.
Like, this is a guy I could hang out with and make fun of other peoples stupidity at work.
I would also tell him to put a piece of tape on his forehead if he was gonna take a thermal image
I think he would understand that. And Wood. Anybody reading this can’t see me, so you have no idea how absolutely hilarious is. If you could see me, you would understand.
I’m giving this video 10 out of 10 stars. Because I could tell I would be good friends with this dude… Thanks for that man!

Hi i jas a flir e8 and i use it for undertiles plumbing to detect leaks. How can i have to set the emissitivity because i am not seeing the pipes clear even with the hot water??

I'm just getting into this as a hobbyist so only learnt the emissivity word the other day. Can you clarify how this works with normal thermal imaging cameras and IR thermal cameras? Or am I misunderstanding completely? I want to get something that can "see" the tunnels burrowed by animals on my farm and an old Flir thermal imaging camera is not showing that so I'm assuming I either haven't set the correct settings or it's not IR, hence why I'm getting into learning about what all the settings mean.

Do you think Flir TG267 is a good start in the job of leak and moister fining in inner areas, like apartment?

Hi would you know what kind of paint will show up in a thermal camera? This is to label objects in a thermal photo

I work in a Power Grid, the Switch Gears(AIS) are mostly made of aluminum and some copper parts also. but whenever I try to measure it with the correct emissivity for copper(0.02) or Aluminium(0.05), It's shows like 200+ degrees of Celsius, when it should be betoween 50 to 70. what is there I'm missing?

How would you account for measuring through a window? For example, an optical element with transmission of 0.9. Is there another correction that should be added to emissivity due to the window?

Well, hell that explains why i cant get a correct reading on a car AC lines.

what if my shiny object has high heat? Is there any tape that can hold high heat? around 120 celcius.

Will standard 0.95 setting be fine for locating missing insulation / cold bridging behind plasterboard (sheetrock I believe you call it). I have a C5 for personal use to locate internal cold spots in a domestic house but it's summer here so the differential between inside and out is nowhere near as easy to detect as if it were winter. The plasterboard is generally painted cream in colour.

The E95's image quality is impressive. I have a TG267 for home inspections. Do you think that model does pretty well for basic inspections, like finding missing insulation, hot circuit breakers or high moisture spots? I'd like to upgrade, but a $500 camera is what I can afford at this moment.

Hi…can u capture in a thermoCam the hot air which lies In summer on top of dry land and flickers like boiling?
I want to find a way to capture thermal air convection on a thermal cam…
Thanx
