Love the idea of the quick pickled tomato. This winter was at a steak house and they were serving a side of sliced pickled tomato with the steak with a little fresh basil and balsamic vinegar on top.

I made a perfectly delicious BLT just a few days ago, with nice, ripe, heirloom tomatoes. I prefer my pickles on the side. But I'll try the pickled tomatoes ... they'd be good on a tuna or roast beef sammie.

You two committed a cardinal sin of not putting the salt and peppered tomato directly on the mayo. That enhances the flavor significantly when the tomato juices start to mix with the mayo...also worth a spread of the mayo in that case. Yes, that means there should be tomatoes on both pieces of bread. I also strongly prefer the sweetness and crunchiness of iceberg lettuce for my BLTs.

Should have lightly toasted the focaccia, which would have lightened the weightiness of that type of bread. It needed the warmth and a slight crunch. Also it could have been cut vertically which makes mini sandwiches and gives you a different textural experience.

This also gave me an idea to try, for winters instead of BLT, make BLPs - bacon, lettuce, and pickles (regular dill pickles)! I think it’s worth trying!

I love Nueske's bacon almost as much as I love this channel....Ilan Hall's bacon-wrapped matzo balls at The Gorbals (RIP) specified Nueske's on the menu and coming from the Midwest (MN) that filled me with an unnatural amount of pride....

If i ask for a tomato sandwich someone would either make just a tomato sandwich or probably use another deli meat. A BLT is a bacon sandwich. Tomatoes do enhance and bring out flavors and textures that are beyond pleasurable. But a bacon is the star. Ive made just bacon and mayo, bacon, mayo, and lettuce. Bacon and pickles. Its what makes it amazing. Most of my garden is literally all lettuce's and tomato variants.

but molly, you have to remember, tomato is basically always in season in California. I've never gotten an unripe tomato even during christmas.

This must be good, but I bet the 15 minute version is sufficient, if the tomatoes go too pickly then this would be like an all pickle sandwich 🤔
