TF2 How to decrease ping! What is Lerp?

Lerp is just there to slow you down. So its basically extra ping.

(thought I said this already guess not) This is a great thing only if your internet isnt a broken toaster. How can I explain this better... Lerp is basically crutches. If you throw the crutches away you can run, but if your legs are both broken you'll fall on your face. If you are unsure on if your internet can handle it just copy your cfg to somewhere. How? look it up it'll take 1 minute.

If your lerp in net graph is yellow it means you are likely to experience packet loss and you should try a slightly higher value for cl_interp

It has been 6 years. This still saved my ass. I always joined with 20ms and then my real ping was like 120. Kept having delays in shots which caused a lot of frustration. People even called it "Lag cheating". Did these steps and now stuff is actually working and shooting like it should be... Haven't had a godlike with sniper in months. Did the console command and got it within 2 matches (maybe luck idk). Everything moved so much more fluent. Thank you!

1:23 you can put the command while in spectator mode so if your in casual and watching this video type kill (if your alive in the game) then put the command.

It did decrease lag, but sometimes the lag always coming out at the worst time

This my issue:
Every 5-10 seconds I get 2 seconds of an insane spike. 95% of my deaths come from this issue and it just started happening by itself last month, I did not do any changes to my internet.
It's super annoying and the worst part is it's only happening to TF2, even without mods. Especially waiting for the enemy around the corner, get a ping spike then find yourself dead after those 2 seconds.

List of fixes I tried:
-This command method
-Get a new network adapter
-Reset the network adapter
-The ipconfig /release method (tried this 3 times)
-Changing the type of Wireless mode under Advanced > Device Manager on the network adapter
-Restarting the computer
-Restarting the router
All of these were futile, and ones that at least did some difference was this and the 5th one. However it only made it not happening too often and were less now (1 second ping spike every 20 seconds.) Any ideas?

i usually do cl_interp 0.001 which puts it at the Lowest possible
then i do cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate 101 and i also do rate 25000
in addition i type cl_lagcompensation 1 and cl_smooth 1
and to top it all off i also type in r_rimlight 0
and fps_max 0
all of these help fps and ping although i don't know if lerp gets even lower than yours in this video. i have to check it out

Fixed my buddies problem! His computer basically shut down because of issues caused by the lerp, thank god I found this video so I don’t have to hear about it for the next 4 months 🙏

yo this worked, i usually join 200-600 pinged servers, now i think the pings are decreased to 10-60 only

edit: YO, I WAS IN A SERVER THAT WAS 700 PING, AND IT GOT DECREASED TO 26, THIS COMMAND HELPS A BUNCH
