How To Escape the Cycle of Boredom and Suffering - WATCH THIS | Aubrey Marcus Books #12

As many of you know I tend to find myself in difficult positions, perhaps so I can find a pathway out of these mental, emotional, and physical challenges. It’s like I’m playing a giant game of Escape Room with my own mind. One brutal, but incredibly helpful tactic I leverage when I find myself in a tight internal spot is the writing of Anthony de Mello. Anthony de Mello is an author whose wisdom is only matched by the brutality in which he delivers it. This section from his book The Way To Love is no different. Anthony de Mello cuts straight to the path to the Kingdom of Joy and flips the entire value system that we have been taught on its head. If Anthony de Mello is a bit much for your taste, I have added my own pragmatism to help you apply the wisdom of his philosophy in this episode of Aubrey Marcus Podcast Books.

So brilliant and clear. Thank you for reading this, Aubrey, at exactly the time I need to hear it. Your commentary post reading is also very meaningful. I so agree that the ups and downs of life's intoxications are part of the beauty of being in these bodies on Earth. But having the perspective that allows us to not invest in the expectation of eternal bliss here in these lives, makes it more fun. We have to remember when the blues hit, that everything keeps moving, and the cycles of change are continuous.

HOLY SHIT MAN. You just blew my mind with a serious epiphany. I started drinking & smoking weed at 16, and I've had a problematic relationship with substances of various kinds ever since. Not _exactly_ addictive, but borderline. Compulsive. I've never felt entirely comfortable just being, always wanted something that would alter my state. In my twenties that included a range of illicit substances wide enough that most straight-edge people wouldn't have even heard of some, but even down to innocuous stuff like caffeine, stim-heavy preworkouts, booze, etc. Anything that made me feel different in some way. I grew out of partying and started university at 27, and after 18 months I realised I'm ADHD. Even though I never party and might have a couple drinks like 3 times a year, I'm now dependent on my prescribed amphetamines. I know I should take some days off, but can't remember the last time I didn't take the maximum daily dose, purely because I don't want to go through the day without them. I've also been struggling to make progress on my (very big) goals, but what you said around 11:05 about endogenous drugs that come from within when we're in the process of pursuing and acquiring, that shit just hit me like a lightning strike. I definitely know that natural kinda high you're talking about, but never connected them together like that. Dude, reframing perception to view the endogenous intoxication of achievement as the state-altering high to chase after.... that shit might just change my fucking life. No joke.

Always been a big fan, but feeling an extra big dose of love for you right now. Appreciate you brother.

God is outside of us, and He is inexhaustible, and therefore never boring and can never leave those who are His and therefore won’t let you down with a suffering of loss. Chasing after other than God, is the issue.

Omg that puts into words how I live and what I share with everyone of my friends who over abs over again are hurt or angered by others ... Never fight reality happiness only comes from within not from anyone or anything never have too high or too low expectations ..it’s really simple most ppl let others control their feelings.... oh yes you want it ... I have all kinds of Joyous and sad things occur but I am good and know this too will pass and I try to accept everything and am so content just being with myself as well ..

I appreciate your sense and sensibility in the midst of extremity. It is an experiment into opening our heart beyond measure and being brave enough to ride the ebbs, flows, changes and challenges that are part of the flow without making excuses, shaming and blaming anyone, anything, be responsible!

Thank you for introducing me to Anthony De Mello ... 🙏🌹
I had never heard of him but after seeing your video regarding his book, The way to Love, I was really inspired and have since watched many videos of Anthony.
I must say that he has managed to get to the root of all suffering and his teachings are definitely the best I have come across and have given me immense hope. ♥️🙏

Aubrey, I loved this and the ideas you talked about. I tend to subscribe to the idea of walking my path of awakening which is about seeking the kingdom, and then taking the awakeness and love and peace I find there and applying it in my life and relationships; because while the forms and materials of this world are temporary, the energy and the beings we experience are eternal in nature (even though they change and evolve), and dancing the dance with authenticity and passion is what brings me joy and lets me know I am alive and walking my path well. Love you brother!
