Modern romance heroines: "I can fix him"
Jane Austen's leading men: "I can fix myself"
Catherine and Heathcliff: "We can make each other worse."

I don't understand how they made a book adaption of Kate Bush's "wuthering heights", I don't think it does the song justice

"Wuthering Heights is East of Eden on cocaine."

I'm sold.

To me, Wuthering Heights was expecting Pride and Prejudice and ending up with Vile and Callousness.

I read it cos it was a 'classic', but hoo boy, this book is full of fireworks! A LOT of shit happens, and a LOT of it is very dark

As I read, I kept waiting for the reveal of Heathcliff as a changeling, fallen angel, or exiled demon entirely.

"Wuthering Heights must of been the template for East of Eden." Then I am sold, that's all you had to say as East of Eden is one of my favorite novels. I actually just finished re reading East of Eden so this is a perfect time to read Wuthering Heights.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is my personal favorite (written by Anne Bronte)

As awful as Heathcliff was, in my eyes young Linton became so much more despicable by the end of the book

Emily Brontë is far superior to Charlotte Brontë. There, I said it! It’s really cool to see the parallels between the vs Cathy/Linton/Hareton—and how Brontë weaved them all together. Genius, gorgeous, breathtaking. I would talk about this book forever and still not tire of it.

Your description of this book as an anti-romance is spot on! It really is all about how rage can consume people and ricochet across generations. I think Emily Brontë’s poem “Often rebuked” is a great thematic companion to her novel. Great video, Jake, thanks!

This was one of my October's read and I really enjoyed it. Its true that it just keep getting worst and worst and worst. People are miserable and they make each other miserable.

I recently moved to the UK and live on the same street as the Brontë Parsonage! It was amazing to see you talk about this knowing it came from my town. Thank you.

I read this book for my summer reading in school, and I loved it, pretty much the only school recommended book that actually stayed with me

It’s 2nd in my TBR stack. I haven’t watched this video yet, it better not be a troll.

I have avoided this book since disliking it as a high school freshman many years ago. I did like the movie with Merle Oberon last year ( I watched it last year, it’s an old movie). So, because I am a cultured adult, I decided to add it to the TBR stack. Coming up soon.

I absolutely hated reading Wuthering Heights in high school, but I might be willing to give it another try after 8 years.
