Ray tracing: "traces individual rays of lights".
Path tracing: "follows many rays".
That's not very helpful. Does that mean multiple rays per each pixel or?

Path tracing is ray tracing, but ray tracing isn't path tracing. I just turn it off in video games, it destroys performance and the upscaling tech is flawed.

Path Tracing also looks better and doesn't have the shitty muddyness and ghosting that raytracing has, its practically perfect.
so whats the downside?
well its extremely performance heavy and makes games run like ass but my god does it look good af.

This explanation is actually not correct. Ray tracing is a "brute force" technique to generate image by simulating light, and path tracing is a way of ray tracing which is much more efficient even by using more rays in the scene. Judgigng by the accuracy, ray tracing is far better but also cost much more hardware ressources. If you are only thinking of ray tracing you have seen in games in the last years, these RT features are not fully fledged ray tracing, but only used in specific rendering tasks (shadows, ambient occlusion, global illumination outdoors, reflections) and NOT globally. It is not possible to completely ray trace a modern video game in real time with the hardware we have today. And here comes path tracing in the picture. It is a less accurate, but therefore a less ressource hungry method of getting near to globally ray traced real time graphics. The data you are losing in this alternative process does not have such a big impact on the image quality, which combined with denoisers and AI frame reconstruction gives really good results.

Comming to the point, global ray tracing for itself is a superior techique to path tracing, but path tracing gives the ability to have an identical effect much more efficient.
