Your issue with the tnt at the start was that you were exploding it on top of bottom slabs.

You can craft Granite, just need Diorite and Quartz (item). Enjoyed the video.

Edit: Diorite and Andesite can also be crafted, both need Cobblestone - Andesite needs Diorite, and Diorite needs Quartz (item). And all three are the unpolished versions.

You can use coal blocks instead of coal to not only smelt one more block per coal, but also transport is easier.

you can't explode bottom slabs in bulk, the way minecraft is coded makes the tnt only explode the slab it's placed on

1:09 it is because the tnt is on bottom slabs, which aren’t full blocks, so it lessens the tnt radius
