My USA Gibson SG had such a crap nut job from the factory so I just broke down and ordered a Black Tusq self lube nut, the width was just slightly wider like 1 64th so that was easy to file, the height I used my calipers in both e string slots to to get the right Gibson specs, I sanded the bottom of the tusq nut until it was the same as the stock nut spec with very little sanding also ( great job at graph tech factory ) The tusq sounds awesome and the action is perfect nice and low at the 17th fret 4 64th. This was the best mod I could have done and I got to give 2 thumbs up to you guys up in Canada where they make them Dave, its as good as a bone nut or better because its self lubing. Best 9 bucks I ever spent. Cheers from Las Vegas PS I put one on my Strat also

I still can't get over the other videos, the one with all the B.C. RIch's on the wall and you talking about Leo Fender rolling in his grave, and "Dah GOOCH of dah week!" I've stolen that one.... Great stuff. Simple, well done. Appreciate the content and dry humor.

Thanks for this video Dave! About to get my first electric soon coming from an acoustic (which you've helped me learn how to try to set up myself and rebuild) and I was considering replacing the nut with a Tusq immediately

Self lubricated nut? I wonder if I could order pair of those for myself, not for guitar.

Love the sring holder invensh ! I really need one of those to get the spread that's necessary when fiddling with nuts !

Was hoping to get a before and after sound comparison of the std nut v the Permanently Inebriated Nuts !

That's an installation video? Try showing the actual process next time.

Great Job Dave, as usual. I actually own an Epi LP just like that, in fact, my picture shows mine along w/my 68 Gibby 335. It a great Axe for the money.  Keep it up! Love your vids. There fun and informative.

Wow, talk about timing! I was just investigating doing this myself. Same exact nut and everything, except it was going to be on a Gibson Les Paul Studio.

Thanks for the video man.

**Peace

From the drop test comparison I wonder what a difference on an acoustic guitar one of these nuts would make? Bound to improve the sound I would think.

Dave was the block of wood on the fret side and you tapped the nut from the headstock side?

Does that just break any glue bond and then the nut pulls out?

Thanks for the vid, you totally love Stew Mac they have you hooked haha

You may have heard this before. If you want/need to sand down by hand, a far better way than using sand paper, is to get yourself some self adhesive wet ad dry and stick onto some glass. An part of an old window will be fine. it will be about as flat as flat can be. You won't get a bow or bump.

Do you have any videos explaining how to cut a nut correctly? I'm currently planing a fairly large guitar mod and I have been debating putting on a brass nut.
I know of other places I could look to see how, but I just like seeing how multiple people do things and work it out for myself..

Great vid love the string spreader thingy. you said something about spec reading 20 thousandths +/- 2, where can I find specs to adjust this and maybe neck relief as well? thanks
