MG5 EV Exclusive POV Review

Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another POV video. This time it's all about the MG5 EV, an all-electric estate car that has found a gap in the market as there's very very few options in this segment. It's available in two trim levels, Excite and Exclusive, with respective starting prices of £20,095, and £27,595.

The Excite starts from offers standard features such as 16” alloys, 7” digital display, air conditioning, cruise control, 8” touchscreen with DAB radio, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, rear parking sensor and reversing camera. There are also three driving modes, Normal, Sport and Eco, and three settings for the KERS.

The Exclusive – model tested here – adds goodies such as keyless entry, heated front seats, leather style upholstery, automatic air conditioning, automatic wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, adaptive cruise control, silver roof rails, and 6-way electronically controlled driver’s seat. No matter which trim level you go for, you won’t get a high amount of safety kit as features such as autonomous emergency braking are not available, but you do get 6 airbags.

The MG5 EV is powered by an electric motor that offers 156hp and 260Nm of torque. 0-60mph is dealt with 7.3 seconds, and the top speed is 115mph. It offers 214 miles of range, but there is a 'Long Range' version, which extends range to 250 miles, but you'll need to pay £1,400 extra for the privilege.

One of the comfiest quietest cars I've driven. Soaked up the rough roads nicely, not unsettled at all.

MG are giving the people what they want! Well done. The quality is definatly on the up. You dont even need to worry about the Badge Snob neighbours; they will just assume you are in a certain German model! I call that a Win Win! 🤣

There's no doubt that MG are offering better priced, by size and tech, EV's than the competition and for that you can excuse the cheaper design flaws. As I understand it, MG's UK based tech team modified the suspension and power to suit the European market. Pity that it's still a bit jiggly! Both MG's have been on my shortlist (upgraded, longer range ZS EV due to be announced any day now (possibly this weekend at Fully Charged Live?). I would prefer an Enyaq, but to match the MG's tech is going to cost a lot more than the apparent £4k price difference, so that's off my list and has been replaced by the Kia Soul. So thank you for this and the Soul's POV drive, just what I needed! POV's offer a different take on the usual reviews (which are also important) so do keep them going! It also helps that you have managed to find a good position for the camera which enables us to see clearly ahead as well as around the cabin (including the Golf GTI steering wheel and the Bosch-powered MG Pilot system on the new Long Range version!). Great video!

Good review 👍 I am thinking of getting this MG5 long range or the Skoda Enyaq 60 Loft (4K more expensive). Still cannot make up my mind 😅

Seems to be one of the best value electric car on the market and that should see it sell well, just needs some suspension tweaks and it could be even better .
