What if the settings gives you a "class not registered". You cannot do this fix unless you can access the settings in your device.

Internet options won't come up because my screen resets before that window can load.

For a second there I thought that I have downloaded A virus from my own college website since I use my laptop for school 99% of the time.

I’m 19 and feel like boomer I don’t know how to fix or deeply mess around with laptops!!

Very great tutorial! Good job! Video is helpful (and worked for me), straight to the point, and unlike a lot of other tutorial videos out there you don't have background noise and/or a really awful mic... I thought this was going to be a much bigger issue than it turned out being, that was so easy! Hoping it doesn't come back, I'm apparently up-to-date although apparently there's a new version 21H1 that's available? I'm not going to bother with that unless I restart my PC and the problem comes back, but at least now I'm familiar with the problem... I think I caused it one of two ways: I recently updated some drivers, OR most likely what caused it was using CCleaner to clear out my registry... Clearly I need to untick some boxes when using that software again (since it is a pretty good software I think for clearing registries, but I don't want it to cause this issue)...

The problem is that whenever i try to open settings that error message appears (+ I can't open start menu or search on the taskbar and before the taskbar was empty i just fixed it)
So is the last method required for this?

@3:55 if you get no cursor & cannot type in the search box next to "This PC" in order to get to "Administrator:Command Prompt", you can try opening Task Manager, then under "file" click on "run new task" while holding down Ctrl button... this will open up to the "Administrator: Command Prompt" screen where you can then type "start control" per the video @4:09 & then enter. It worked for me!

Unfortunately, even though I was able to get the command prompt & then follow all the steps in the rest of this video, it still did not fix my "explorer.exe Class not registered" error & the error returned after rebooting. So I am still screwed & don't know how to fix the error. Also, b/c I cannot get my start button or search buttons to respond, I cannot go into Windows to try to install any updates waiting there. :'( Hope the rest of you are doing better than me!

Worked well following the instructions. My error came after I was prompted to download new driver on my recently purchased Dell laptop. Never knew how to easily "find" Windows Explorer "restart." Good luck, this can drive you crazy.

I couldn’t fix mine, when I got to the MMC part, after clicking on the options and the internet options, it said “This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator” I’m super confused, please help.
