How to Answer Difficult Questions (almost on the spot...)

Answering difficult questions is a skill we're not taught and we're made to feel as if we need to answer them immediately.

Don't underestimate the power of pausing, or even giving yourself a few moments to map out your thoughts before giving an answer.

It's all in the way you frame it, and if done right, you come across as extremely thoughtful and diligent in your response.

I remember I went for this interview, a big deal of a job, and the 3 interviewers in front of me asked me a scenario, how would I deal in that situation..? So, I replied (especially because I had no clue if you'd have that role, what would you do, but I then tried to think logically) "Do you mind if I'm gonna take a moment to think about this, so I come back with my best answer?" (Of course, they didn't mind, in fact they appreciated the fact I didn't just rush to say anything.. and of course the reply I gave them was well structured, because I had some time to put my thoughts in order) .. so yeah, I got the job out of 500 candidates who applied for it! Totally relevant what Vinh is saying, well done 👏 😊

Pausing signals to the other person that it's their turn to speak or that you don't have an answer. It really doesn’t work in most conversation unless you verbally prep the asker or clearly use gestures.

Hi Vinh, quick question. There are many times i know that a strategy would result in disaster (not immediate) but it would have a domino effect and things do down the drain. Yes it has happened on multiple occassions. But i have never been able to answer the question "why do you say that?" Or "what makes you think that?" I know the results purely because of previous experience combined with information overload and strategic thinking. But i have never been able to present my thoughts to the listener Nd then they regret not listening. I dont want them to regret and want to be able to explain myself better. I know that my communication hinders me a lot and i would not have to face difficult situations if only i could communicate better in the moment. How would one go about doing that?
