Getting trained, wearing adequate protective gear, keeping your speed reasonably close to the speed limit, not riding in dangerous conditions (really high winds, ice/snow, torrential rain to the point that you cannot see very well) and not riding while impaired massively improve your odds of not having an accident.

Riding a motorcycle isn’t like rolling a dice to see if you die or not… crashes happen because of ignorance either with other drivers or the motorcyclists themselves. If you wear a helmet properly your chances of dying are close to zero. If you’re safe while riding a motorcycle you’re fine, there’s no “chance” involved

Im 47 ive been riding since I was like 13 at 14 i was riding a motorcycle to and from school and other places I wanted to go i to this day have not been in a motorcycle accident on the highway.. excluding dirt bikes ive never been injured while riding. I have rode sport bikes cruisers and touring bikes i will ride my bike more miles every year than I drive my truck. Its easy to get into a bad situation when you are acting stupid not be responsible and not being aware of your environment if you want to do things like wheelies or driving faster than you are allowed by law on roads go find a track and remove the other parties from the equation i today ride a 1300 vtx and often ride with big groups of other riders on some long trips remember on bikes you are responsible for your own safty so if you lack the skills and experience to be riding in rain groups with a passenger at excessive speeds on challinging roads with serious tight corners or traffic then dont do t the risk is not worth it. Most accidents are the results of the other motorist or the irresponsible actions of the rider .. you can minimize the risk greatly by following the speed limit and obeying the traffic laws and by actually having the skills and experience to safely operate the bike on public roads stay safe and enjoy the ride ❤❤❤

I heard from an anesthesiologists
that they’ve seen over 2000 motorcycle crashes victims and all but 1 were impaired by drugs or alcohol

I used to say the same thing until it happened to me. I was always cautious or so I thought until a lady made a left turn in front of me with less than 40 feet of space. I nailed the side of her car, but luckily I didn't suffer any serious injury because I wear all my gear, but did still get a twisted ankle landing on the other side her car. Stay safe!

I agree but the biggest problem is that most accidents involving a bike are caused by the other party. I knew a guy that was wearing protective gear and all and a car just ran into him (car is at fault 100%) and now he’s severely disabled and can barely do anything himself after he was in a medically induced coma for several months. Ofc it doesn’t happen to everyone but often it’s not even the bikers fault. But wearing gear is definitely a way to heighten your chances to survive if you should ever crash.

Thats all across America. Do it by state or county and the odds of crashing go up substantially.

I get this argument, my biggest issue with motorcycles is that it doesn’t matter how safe you are. You are only as safe as the other drivers around you are competent. Your life is literally in their hands, and I do not trust my fellow man enough to give them that responsibility.

Well said, man. I absolutely love riding and will until the day I die.

Are those stats for the year or over the lifetime of the driver? Because 1% a year is a lot if you plan to live 80 years

Same situation with the whole Boeing thing. People are scared to fly on one, even though the chances of an accident are incredibly slim, and most of the time are due to maintenance issues with the airline.

most motorcyclists dont even wear the correct protective gear that makes you slide after a fall, and that comes from someone who has worn it for the last 20 years, most of the time the drivers are dangerous yes and young

I wish i could ever get myself to ride a motorcycle but probably never will because my dad got a traumatic brain injury (and almost died) from a crash when he was on a motorcycle

Don't forget that people either have zero bikes or a half dozen 🤣

Damn thats kinda awful for people to say "when" it'll happen. From stranger to stranger, I hope it doesn't ever happen.

Stats are skewed you’re including every registered vehicle that tagged as a motorcycle like vespas

It's not that motorcycles are dangerous it's the idiot drivers not paying attention that are dangerous. They hit everyone not just motorcyclists. Keep them off the road not the bikes.
