The point is that the hero can't always get the happy ending. It's kinda sad yet touching that Johnny lives on after V in V's body since he got a second chance at life, and he learned lessons from his own and V's, which probably will make him a better person in the end. One problem is the people who'll miss V, which is likely why Johnny decided to cut ties since it'd hurt to see their friend's/lover's body being used by someone they barely know.
