07 - Trig Functions of Acute Angles - (Sin, Cos, Tan, Cot, Sec & Csc Theta) - Part 1 - Trig Ratios

In this lesson, you will learn the six trigonometric functions and how to apply them to acute angles. The six trig ratios are sin (sine), cos (cosine), tan (tangent), cot (cotangent), sec (secant), csc (cosecant). These six trig functions are used in all branches of math, science, and engineering. The sine and cosine ratios are used to compare the horizontal and vertical sides of a right triangle to its hypotenuse. The tangent function is used to directly compare the sin and cos (vertical and horizontal) sides of the triangle. The tangent corresponds to the slope of a line. The cot, sec, and csc functions are just reciprocals of the other 3 trig functions. In all, there are 6 trigonometric functions that all students must learn.

Freakin amazing. In 37 minutes I've actually learned this material. In high school and college I just memorized the formulas long enough to pass the tests. Again, this is amazing. This is exactly why our schools should offer both in-person and online classes for math.

The synopsis of the “chopping function” and a deeper understanding is such an intuitive way to teach rather than just a book/teacher spitting out rules that can be easily forgotten. Understanding is a much more solid base than using rote memory.

My dvd library is getting filled with great examples and repetition of math. A Matrix is a matrix any way you Cos it. Jason is a real teacher who knows the how and why of the subjects he explains. This is by far the best explanation out there. James Matrix
