But to those of us who understand the deeper event that's going on, it is respect and admiration for someone who represents those of us who live a humble, simple life and do not seek fame, but only seek to serve God with the gifts He has given us.

Selecting a pope has nothing to do with politics. The process is completely different. The meetings are just a chance to get to know the other cardinals, to learn about their concerns and the problems in the areas. To discuss ways to solve problems, to see how the others have worked through the issues. There is no politicking. In fact, no cardinal seeks the papacy and few want the job. If the Holy Spirit selects one man for the job, he will take it because he feels God is asking him to do it.
