One of my favorite Rick and Jerry moments is when they find out about that talking cat, one of the few times when he genuinely wanted to protect Jerry.

My favorite episodes are the ones with both Rick and Jerry. At this point Morty grew that his relation with Rick changed, but when you swap Morty for Jerry then you have this original dynamic kind of back.

I honestly think that people give Jerry too little credit. Like when you compare him to Rick’s values, yeah he’s utterly pathetic because he’s a total idiot and pitiful coward, but at the same time, he still actively loves his family and tries to make himself better as the show goes on such as being able to admit when he’s wrong like in the camping episode or stepping in and saving Rick from Birdperson when previously he would have ran away. Rick on the other hand is so arrogant and insecure that he’ll go to extreme lengths just to avoid admitting he was wrong, and has shown time and time again that while he may love his family, he doesn’t treat them right and is constantly a toxic presence in their lives to the point that they’ve put up barriers around him. That’s why Jerry’s a perfect foil for Rick because his good and simple nature keeps coming out on top, despite Rick’s immense intellect and god-like abilities. If you really want to know who’s winning the feud, you just have to look at how Jerry’s relationship with the family has changed since season 1 and how Rick’s has.
