"AI should be doing our laundry..." is spot on. 🤬

Bjorn from ABBA is spearheading this effort against AI learning on published work.

Too late definitely, we always complain when it's too late. Same thing happened when Microsoft started ripping cd's justified under "for my own copy"! Streaming services ripped musicians under the justification of "your music will be heard by millions of people".
We wanted technology to help us not to destroy us.

I wonder if AI will realize the public hate modern rock and metal production before guitar nerds do? 😅

As usual I agree 100% man. The few big main money pushers who finance the AI industry are the same few big main money pushers that finance and control all other major industries. Yes there are many companies/corporations in all industries. But when you dig deep enough you find that all of them are ultimately financed by just a few (i.e. Blackrock and Vanguard). So its very difficult, to put mildly, to battle these groups who has control over so many facets of our day-to-day lives. AI will not be any different.

Damn. Wish we could’ve taken measures to stop this AI thing

Regulations are like locks. They are there to keep your friends out.

As an IT engineer & musician ... we need to worry! There REALLY needs to be allot of legal precautions to regulate. You are right regarding the fight and we are late to the "throwdown"! The best advise I can give is ... LEARN ... as much AI as you can bring into your creative space. Be careful though ... Man Made ... "Man Hackable!!"

Absolutely pure facts and common sense of moral philosophy. 'A.I should do our laundry so we can work on Music'. It is unacceptable that the industry is in such corruptive mode forgetting legends who cultivated and build this giant. A.I will eventually completely take over. This is dangerous

Great take - I look at it like carpentry.

You can get a mass produced kitchen table that looks great with cheap veneers, but it doesn't stop skilled craftsmen who still want to make the table from scratch.

Those who want the cheap stuff get their fill, but dedicated artists still will have their crowd who appreciate them for their humanity.

I don't know if I'd listen to AI generated music for my own enjoyment, but similar to social media there will be an entire generation growing up where it's ubiquitous.

Societal norms are changing.

We have to get with the times.

I also recognize that I like AI where it elevates things that would otherwise be less great.

I use generative images for single art, whereas before I'd just photoshop something together, now I have something that looks thematically good. I act more like an art director to get it done.

It won't be as good as a painter with 20 years of practice, but it'll work for me and save me time.

I wouldn't be hiring anyone as I'm having a hard enough time with my own bills. So no one is losing money from my specific application.

That said it's uncool that it was trained on other people's art, that I can't deny.

I think society is going to have to shift towards a "collective good" mindset being that we cannot stop this technology. Similar to Neil Degrasse Tyson being happy about people getting education about the stars despite being frustrated that AI was trained on his books.

If we zoom out and see the bigger picture (beyond how invested we are in how society works today) it will be net positive in the end.

Too late.
Actually the AI / copyright discussion started a year or so ago by the question "Can I have a copyright on my AI generated content? " Of course asked by companies.
The real question "is AI allowed to digest copyrighted content ? ", asked by artists only now starts to be seriously discussed.
The problem is that there will be neither a way to find out what content the training data used, nor is there a way to prevent the AI companies to use anything ever published for training.

We were supposed to commit ourselves to excellence become the “AI”.

Now we have to commit ourselves to the study of law and become ruthless advocates for humanity.

Largely agree with the premise. The models have been made and are being iterated on constantly. It'd take ages to actually pass laws that'd outlaw their questionable data collection practises. As far as I'm aware, we just need to cross our fingers and hope that they hit certain roadblocks, and the best, human made content, rises to the top.

Never.. WILL AI replace creative talent like Us

I think AI is pretty interesting and I'm totally open for it to be some kind of a tool rather then "enemy". Ofc there will be a lot of changes going on, but I'm sure we find new ways to be creative. I've been working with music for almost 20 years now in various genres. I kind of welcome change because we evolve of that. Not stuck in fear that we might loose some quality time. Today we are billions of people on this planet and I'm certain that ...for example...you'll be more interested in music or art created by man then a machine in the end...that's far more interesting in long term. "Mainstream" will probably suffer the most...but relax...it's just a ride...Nature always wins somehow.

AI will always base on something, like on old songs. For people that are so not creative that AI can replace them - it is a tragedy. But it is also the opportunity for real artists, creating something innovative, that AI cannot immediately copy.

They couldn't regulate spotify, there is no chance against AI. It all started with drum machines. Unfortunately there are millions of lazy or untalented "musicians, writers and producers", and I use those terms very loosely, out there quite happy to let AI do the work for them.

oh were screwed. everybody is. not just artist. have fun with your little suno songs while it still last, and your not too busy trying to break into your neighbors house to steal their food.

Its just like when metallica was trying to fight napster and they just made it worse by making it more popular
Their gona have to change the way copyright laws work
One suggestion is to make it like a site system where you have to site your original source
