Never say “I’m hoping”. Always answer “I’m expecting”

"I'm currently interviewing for positions that pay between $130-140k"

"Sir, this is McDonalds..."

Yeah that works until they say they’ve got other candidates willing to take lower pay

I did the last one. They quickly told me to go somewhere else. Be very careful what you think you can ask.

"I'm currently interviewing for the same position offering between 115-125K"

Hiring Manager: Okay, go there. Bye.

I am a senior citizen and I believe that no one can become a millionaire overnight, it takes years of smart not hard work, time management and the right investments. Every year you don't invest you simply fall a year behind and I say this from experience.

When I get this question I respond with “I’m open to the most competitive offer”.

I'm actually more interested in what you're offering for this role so I can properly judge it against the other positions I'm interviewing for....

Im sorry but come on. This is ludicrous advice. I don't believe an employer will be cowed into offering someone a top rated salary because you told them you're interviewing for positions that pay between x and y salary. As if an employer wouldn't know the market value of said position.

Company will say NO !. They have to respect a BUDGET. That's WHY they interview multiple candidates: choose what's best DEAL for them.

My response would be “I’m willing to work for a reasonable offer.”’if they respond, “what’s a reasonable offer?” I would say “Make me an offer and we can go from there.”

If you ask for too little you shorted yourself, too much and they won’t offer you the job. It’s better to negotiate after they have made it clear they want to hire you.

Actually I’m way to young for this. But it makes a great base for me to understand how the real world works. Please keep spreading information.

This is how I answer too. ALWAYS say you are interviewing for other positions that have the range you are looking for. It really really helps if it’s true too, because you will sound more radiating and confident.

Although let’s be realistic in this market, people are spamming 100s of resumes hoping to get a reply, and do this over and over again and maybe just maybe get an interview.

“Ok thanks. We’re just gonna hire the lady who was here before you for 95k”😂

You never give your number first. You ask what the budget is for the position and go from there.

I did something like this at my current job, let them know I needed a definite answer on what they were offering to pay me and when I would get a definite answer on even getting the job because I had other companies who already gave me that information and had deadlines to accept those offers. I got a call the next morning at 8:30 saying they wanted to offer me the position at a higher offer and better hourly schedule than the other companies.

“We need to offer her top of the range” said no interviewer ever.
