Tinnitus is seriously causing me a huge depression.. I can't stand it anymore! I want the ringing to stop and just be able to sleep and work in peace

I developed tinnitus after a corona infection. My ears were clogged, dysfunction of the eustachian tube and a weird clicking in my ears when I swallowed. I was sick for 3 weeks, but the ear dysfunctions remained. The worst 3 months of my life for sure. This video helped me sleep, but luckily my tinnitus is gone now. For anyone who is panicking right now and searching shit on the internet: don't do it, you'll only stress more about it and your tinnitus will get worse. Stress is your worst enemy. It CAN go away, it takes time (it can still go away after 6-12 months.) Believe me, I know it's hard I've been there too. Go for a walk, listen to music (not too loud), do the things you normally do. You can do this.

You have missed out on what is probably the main cause of tinnitus which is stretched muscle nerves in the neck and shoulders or somatosensory tinnitus. I have this form of tinnitus linked to a head forward position over a computer keyboard over a long period of time but it also refers to the current generation's use of mobile phones. Brazilian researchers found that unlike animals we have to turn our heads to pinpoint sounds. This results in a signal sent to the somatosensory nucleus where the signal is integrated before being passed to the cochlear sensory nucleus and onto the hearing center in the brain. When the neck muscles are overstretched the signal waveform is distorted and so that passed on to the cochlea is too causing the tinnitus sounds. In this form of tinnitus, habituation is difficult because, as I find, the sound changes frequently depending on which muscle(s) are affected and this often depends on exercise or sleep position such that in my case the tinnitus signal can either go away completely or become very loud. Typical I "hear" several sounds at once with one becoming dominant depending on which muscle nerve dominates. I have found a chiropractor is more useful than and ENT specialist.

I get tinnitus in my ear every once in awhile usually my left ear what I do is I just sit still and close my eyes and I just imagine that the sound is coming from a volume knob and I start in my mind slowly turning it down until it's all the way down and I swear to God it's worked for me for at least twenty years. It start slowly getting quieter and then shuts off as I do that.

Have persistent and continuous tinnitus for many years. Mainly a hissing / high frequency noise, but sometimes hums and noises like an engine running at idle. No issues on blood analyses. No hearing loss, but if sound frequency matches with tinnitus, I miss very low level high frequency sounds during audio tests. No healing over time. Went to ENT once, years ago. They did audio test, nothing revealed and he did not request further assessments. Thankfully, I am not obsessed / disturbed with the existence of tinnitus.

I recently started taking thyroid hormone after tests showed my TSH levels were low. Surprisingly the moderate tinnitus I've had for years was reduced significantly and even completely goes away for part of the day. This means that I needed it even when I tested at normal thyroid hormone levels.

I worked in a noisy factory for 28 years, ear protection was not a safety law till the late 80s back then, So I got Tinnitus! I am now a pensioner/carer and the Tinnitus is still with me! It used to be permanent 24/7, but since becoming a carer and keeping myself busy, I get days/weeks when it disappears, or low pitch! My hearing is bad, has been for most of my life! I got hearing aids, but don't use them much as they hurt my ears more times than not! So glad I watched your blog! Many thanks!

Great video, when I was in college 15 years ago, I woke up and it started to ring in my ears and I couldn't even sleep, and now I found relief for tinnitus on Shirlest and I'm so happy I can live a life without ringing in my ears!

I get loud tinnitus if I smoke weed. THC can temporarily cause it. If any other smokers are experiencing bad tinnitus, try having a break for some days and see if it stops. It starts as soon as I smoke and goes away by the next day if I don’t smoke again. My theory is the weed increases blood pressure in the head, causing the high pitch sound for many hours/rest of the day. I was thinking it’s a permanent lifetime issue until it went away when I had a break from smoking. It sucks to get it from smoking but I’m glad it’s not there if I’m not high. My concern now is if I smoke a lot it could become permanent.

What is true about tinnitus?
1) Hearing loss due to exposure to noise is a risk factor for tinnitus
2) Tinnitus can be diagnosed with an audiometry test
3) Appears only in young people
4) It can usually be treated with medication

This says nothing about structural damage i.e. neck or spine positional alteration or soft tissue injury similar to whiplash which can be determined by the lessening or complete absence of the tinnitus "noise" during various head or neck movements.
