Back story: What started as peaceful student protests for more jobs, escalated as government sponsored cadres, police and paramilitary unleashed lethal force on students, some as young as 13. Videos posted on social media of these killings, especially one where police gunned down a student called Abu Sayed who clearly had no weapons and had his hands in the air, sparked widespread anger and civil disobedience. The government amped it up further by deploying the army and imposing a total media blackout. Finally, after 400 plus killed, mosly college and high-school students, and thousands injured, the government has allowed the courts to put out an emergency declaration that the demands of job reform have been temporarily accepted but will be subject to future government directives. The majority of people feel this is too little, too late, and nothing but a government ploy to diffuse the situation. They feel the massive number of dead and wounded have shredded whatever legitimacy the government may have had. They are now demanding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina step down immediately and that new and fair elections be scheduled once the healing of a traumatized nation has begun.

It’s well know that India is backing this autocratic Hasina regime for the past 15 years . Also this protest is not just abt quota anymore . People from all walks of life are demanding the fall of this regime and restoration of democracy in the country . Economy is in shambles, sky high inflation & astronomical levels of unemployment & corruption alongside the routine brutality of regime thugs on innocent people is fueling this movement & protest . It’s not just the quota .

300 + innocent civilians have been killed by Hasina regime in the past 3 days amidst the communication blackout . People don’t give a damn what the regime controlled court says anymore .

This verdict has also problem might be intentional: they crapped women quota entirely which is not good in male dominant society, It could have been 5-8%. Other thing is they wanted a reform not abolishing like women and district quota.

I think earlier they only wanted to restructure the quota system.

Bangladesh's regime is unlikely to implement a Supreme Court ruling. PM Hasina is above the law.

"Quota can be increased whenever govt wants."

This is the actual verdict announced by court.

This never needed to be this deadly if govt. just stick to whatever was already functional in the job quotas. But no, 56%!!!!

There is no more student protest. Now it's jamat vs awami league. Started with students protest but police brutality give BNP and jamat a perfect platform for highjacking the protest.
I don't think students will burn bus, building, loot shops. It's tipical jamat protest.
Hasena govt use force on wrong people. They should have take strict action against jamat not innocent students.

Students don't want the Quata system abolished. What the court gave is okay at least it would have been okay few days earlier. But now quota isn't the reason for protest. We want justice for all the lives that have been lost in just 5 days.

How can Sheikh Hasina still be in power by violating world human rights, I want the resignation of murderer Hasina as soon as possible. Judiciary of Bangladesh is not independent, it is under the responsibility of the government.

Most of the people of Bangladesh do not want this government to remain in power, so everyone wants the movement to continue.
