Woah took a smelter, a grill, and almost an anchor before you learned not to put things on the edge hahaha. Good stuff here

You can put things on an edge just fine IF you upgrade foundations with metal. The shark will leave upgraded foundations alone, so dive for metal ore as much as you can. Small islands usually have about 20-25 metal ore. Nets can be upgraded too. It saves you a huge headache of dealing with the shark. Maybe try to make about 5 smelters to upgrade things faster. Me and my wife have 25 smelters and we still feel like thats not enough lol. Water purifiers are also extremely helpful. They require glass (smelt sand).

Either plant some trees, or get more collection nets, that will help with planks.
And you can collect things from the ocean by pressing e will standing on the edge of the raft. No need to use up the hook.
