Dyslexia Awareness Part 1: Inclusive Classroom - Celebrities including Sir Richard Branson, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Maggie Aderin-Pocock join expert teachers from two world leading dyslexia schools to share their wisdom and expertise in these inspirational Dyslexia Awareness Training films produced by Made By Dyslexia. Millfield School UK and Schenck School USA are both pioneers in the field of dyslexia and the first schools in their respective countries to successfully support dyslexic students and focus on dyslexic strengths. These films have been incorporated into 5 Dyslexia Awareness Training modules designed to help teachers, educators and parents understand dyslexia, both its strengths and challenges, gain essential knowledge in how to recognise and support it, and create a dyslexia inclusive classroom.

About Made By Dyslexia:
We’re a global charity led by successful dyslexics. Our purpose is to help the world properly understand, value and support dyslexia.

We believe in the game-changing power of dyslexic thinking. After all, everything from the light bulb to the iPhone was invented by dyslexic thinkers. In 2020 we launched “Connect The Spots”, a global training and advocacy programme to level the playing-field so every dyslexic child can achieve their potential.

To achieve this we have one single minded mission: to train every teacher worldwide in the next five years to spot, support and empower every dyslexic child.

I’m literally crying. I always thought there was something wrong with me and that I was stupid. I was never diagnosed with dyslexia. I had a hard time at school, being the last one to finish an exercise, getting distracted so easily. I still hate reading out loud, and I love my routine. Everything makes so much sense now. Thank you for this videos, it made me realise there’s nothing wrong with me.

0:28 that is why at some point I learned that if the teacher was going in order, I'd count how many class mates were before me. I'd count the paragraphs, then pre-read the paragraph that should be mine so that I was able to read it better when I was my turn. It was better than not re-reading but I still couldn't read well. I currently read at 120wpm out loud and about 150wpm when not verbalizing it. My mom and brother could read an entire book in a single night. I could read 10 pages which would take a few hours, then feel overwhelmed. I remember one time, I read a page of a book then wanted some water. I came back and picked up where i left off. About 3/4 way through the page (I was back to where I had left ot get water) I was thinking to myself, "this seems familiar" which is when I realized I was reading the same page. I was frustrated...and decided to go to the restroom. I returned and continued reading. About 1/2 through the page I realized I'm reading the SAME PAGE AGAIN!!! I knew I had dyslexia but I didn't know why I couldn't remember much of the page. Now, so many years later, I realize the affect dyslexia has on the person. That coupled with ADD doesn't help. I have only recently begun looking into ADD and dyslexia bc I recently told my current employer that I have those things. I only told them bc i had been written up a few times for not staying on task...thus i felt the need to let them know (they are the first people, other than my wife and a friend, that I told I have both things).

The thing with inclusive classroom are needed because these under loved children need help and what gets me is that is that disadvantage children struggle to get diagnosed with Dyslexia and it is a struggle for them so I do think there needs to be looked at too. But let's also think about the children that struggle with Dyslexia but also there parents can't afford sertant things then there needs to be help there for the parent too.

Exactly dyslexia minimises self confidence of a child and in spite of having number of opportunities he can not be able to do anything with confidence.

As much as I agree with a lot of this, I am suspicious of the claim it’s helps everyone and hurts no one. Dyslexic think different so things that help us may frustrate others. I know I confuse the shit out of people sometimes with things that feel obvious to me.
