Will Air Canada pilots go on strike this fall? What to know

Air Canada pilots could go on strike within weeks, but both the union representing pilots and the airline say they are working to negotiate.

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the union representing the pilots, says they are hoping to avoid a work stoppage but are prepared to go on strike if the impasse continues.

Several rounds of talks took place between the airline and the union between January and June. At the end of June, however, they entered a 60-day period of federal consultation. In less than two weeks, a 21-day cooling period will begin, ending mid-September.

Former Air Canada Chief Operating Officer Duncan Dee joins Global's Amandalina Letterio to speak about the potential job action.

Pilots haven’t had an actual raise since bankruptcy in 2003 and subsequent concessionary contracts. The Air Canada pilots are pretty much asking for the concessions back. Albeit with inflation adjustments.

I’ve heard that Air Canada pilots are some of the lowest paid in the world….

What you need to know if your flight is cancelled you will get NOTHING in reimbursement or compensation from them. Westjet cancelled our flights and left us stranded in Phoenix during their strike and we spent 3000$ out of, pocket to get home and they are giving NOTHING back.

In other news PM Trudeau has found credible allegations that Indian diplomats have infiltrated airline workers’ union to disrupt Canadian air travel. 😂😂

The labour distributions are the fault of the company for paying so poorly for so many years, not the union’s fault. Need a more unbiased opinion on the topic.

As well, he is pretty confident there will be no strike. Westjet ame’s went on strike a few months ago. A president has been set.

All of this is a consequence of the poor work done by Doug Ford. He lies when he says that he benefits all of us, but salary cuts and not full-time job creation, cuts in worker health benefits but, that only benefits companies.

Well here we go. I am sure the senior union guys said no and the young puppies out voted them. . The Feds should open the skies American Airlines. But as you know Air Canada is the federal government’s baby. Let’s not forget the Government’s support agreement with Air Canada( this has to stop). That’s why Air Canada has not gone belly up. Bring in the big airlines.

Air Canada is always delayed and or have issues. If you can travel with different airlines, go for it. We stayed sitting in the airplane one hour after onboarding and more than one hour when we landed. All the times I traveled with Air Canada, they had some issue!

I avoid Air Canada at all cost, Rude attendants, horrible customer service, and only a 50/50 chance of your luggage going to same continent..

When will Canada democratically join the US and become the 51st State of America?

If it's not the pilots, it's the flight attendants. If not them, it's the mechanics. If not them, it's the baggage handlers. If not them, then it's cbsa. If not them, then
