Part of the problem with machinegun emplacements is that the game seems to treat it like an enclosed vehicle meaning you cant try to snipe the operator or stab him with a bayonet. And when you are given the opportunity to commandeer one you might notice there is no way to tell it to hold fire.

One that mission that introduces howitzers try to do a stealth kill. You would expect your guy to backstab one of the two operators but instead the knife stab causes the entire howitzer to explode

Lethality is very present however if you are using your scouts binoculars for recon blind corners aren’t blind

I finished the game last week, and my recommendation is:

Play it first time with savescumming, as you grab the mechanics, gameplay, economy, etc

And for second time, try it on Hardcore - no saving - death means death, lets move on - the game is not lost if you have more then 6 soldiers in your squad, so it could be interesting challenge :)

I intend to do it next week or so :)

Btw i never experienced any bug you mentioned here, dunno why.

Greetings from Czechia

You provided some really interesting insight on how people actually interact and play with games and how that affects game design. Very thoughtful!

Long story made short The Czechs were originally being moved to face a possibly invasion by Japan, war ends Russia falls into disarray and there was a MASAIVE 30k troops I believe inside of russias borders and nowhere to go, all they wanted was to go home home they were forced to give up their weapons before boarding the train and I can’t remember off the top of my head rn why they went East instead of the much shorter west i do know it wasn’t up to the Czechs, any of it. Look it up it’s EXTREMELY interesting I didn’t even know about these events until recently (past couple years) and I’m a historian so don’t be too rough on yourself. Very good video! Thank you for the review good sir! 🇺🇸💪🏼🇦🇺

for someone who doesn't like doing reviews, that was a shit hot review bud, good balance of praise and criticism and not afraid to say were the game fails and succeeds, nice time length too makes it easier to stay interested in what's being said. 5 *'s

There are bugs in a game that can cause reloading like enemies downing you units after they enter a vehicle or emplacement

very tempted by this game, love the mechanics. will give the demo a go and make a decision... $60 is a lot for something that may be buggy

I think it is a great game but the bugs definitely hurt it. I experienced the greyed out soldier bug in chapter 2 on my first run. I decided to restart and my game quite literally broke 40 hours into my second run and I had to restart again. If I didn’t enjoy the game as much as I do that would have been it for me

What happens to your characters if they get killed? Do they show up in the train after or do they die die?

Yeah, I agree with you about those bugs. For me this game is a mix between This of Mine and Banner Saga, so losing a named character to a bug seems so unfair, just ragequit unfair.

1st just for history lesson (I totally understand you do not have the information, so no offense ment. Just for info) Czech state was there from 9th century. Just after the loss of battle on the white mountain (location name - part if the capital city these days) in year 1620, the state was occupied by Austria and Hungary. After great war the country grabbed its autonomy again.

Now for disparity of those two modes.I would say its in your head. May consider it holy grail. As all the decisions are transferred between two modes. That is actualy what makes games like total war or LTH special.

But its nice to see a different view on the game.

Cool! Thanks for sharing your experiences. The game looks great! It reminds me of X-com and Silent Storm especially, which i just started playing again and it's one of my favorite games. Much more smaller in scale, but i get the same wibes. One thing that bugs me in Silent Storm is the same point you mentioned here; certain cheesy deaths. I'd love to play it on Ironman, but many of the cheesy deaths just don't make it feasable. So, i resort to save scumming. It's great for the most part and the AI is rather active, but sometimes there's just a dude (or bunch) sitting in a room, just waiting for me to enter it and get killed. It's scripted, and it's bad. I understand that it's a different era of gaming, but it's a bit cheese since the AI in general is reactionary and gives a good challenge. But perhaps, that's my only true con about it. Silent Storm: Sentinels the addon makes the game even better, and it has an Ironman mode (if i remember right). It's been such a long time since i've played Sentinels, but next time i'll go for the Ironman mode. Perhaps, in the addon the scripted dudes are more absent.

Well if you don't like the resource management stuff you can allways set difficoulty of that down.
What i disliked is heavy weapons. Their helth system is not great.
Bugs will hopefully be fixed and something like ironmode added.

I will check this game out based on your rec, but I can't agree with total war opinion. The amount of grand strat games that have mod projects for RTS battles 'Just like total war' shows that the combo really does work. I believe in CK3 they've even managed this by cannibalising total war Attila. The reason is that it gives the player that micro manager control they desire, your 1500 crash into the enemy 2000 and lose, but you have the hills and you have some elite troops, you reckon you could've had that, but the game doesn't allow it.... except in total war.
