So what happens when you split the market by a demographic characteristic that’s not strongly related to buying behavior? e.g., you split by gender, but lots of men _and_ women actually but your product. Now you’re screwed. Demographics are the wrong way to define a market for strategic understanding (although they work ok for advertising because that’s how ad placement is sold).

If you know about market segmentation, why are you paying money to advertise to me? I'm a strategy consultant. I know you're talking nonsense. Why don't you "split the market" and stop wasting money?
