I've never really thought of using a puzzle to help you to solve another as cheating, it's something that I often do.

Have you ever done a full solve? What kind of strategy did you go for?

I'm guessing it would be something along the lines of...

- Make the inner 2x2s "possible" (think like a 3D OLL)
- Solve the inner 2x2s (like a 3D PLL)
- Solve the outer 2x2 while somehow not messing up the inner 2x2s

I just got this puzzle yesterday, my wife had ordered it for Christmas and it came uhhh a little late hahah

They should make a version which uses transparent plastic for the outer puzzle, would be an interesting look and useful for solving

I enjoy your videos! And I don't feel visual aids are cheating. After a few solves I doubt you'll need them; but if you find them helpful, others may also find it helpful if you choose to include them in a tutorial.

(It's actually clever: your solution is to use your vision on a puzzle that conceals clues lol; thats awesome!)

Hey Pete, I really appreciate the work you do on your channel. Question for you: have you had any problems with the satellite pieces falling out during turns? I'm asking because I got the clear version of this puzzle and it seems like every 5th or 6th turn, a quarter of a satellite is jumping out of the puzzle, ruining a "pure" solve. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

That is a very fascinating puzzle! Did I understand this correctly, that you can't scramble the outer puzzle without mixing up the inner ones? Would it be possible to scramble and solve the outer 2x2 without touching the smaller satalite puzzles so that in the end you have a solved puzzle again?

I don't think it's cheating but I do think if I were to require external visual aids that I wouldn't be totally happy with my solution. I know some need them. Not everyone can visualize what happens easily and that's fine. We all have strengths and weaknesses.

What you did is similar to solving a sudoku cube with the addition of a pen and paper to figure out where the pieces go. That's how most solve that puzzle.

Basically you are offloading things from the main tool(your brain) on to another. That extra tool should be unnecessary if you fully understand and can visualize what your doing. I personally wouldn't be satisfied unless I could do it with just the puzzle. If you're ok with the way you did it that's all that matters.
